Being a technician and electronics repairman is not just a job; it’s also a window into people’s lives because their gadgets can be a reflection of how they live. At least that’s the case for one repairman in Orem, Utah, whose customer sent him a broken PlayStation 5 (PS5). The Utah repairman slammed the PS5 shut after opening it because he found some horrendous creepy crawlies inside– cockroaches or German roaches, nonetheless.
This rather disgusting experience was recorded and uploaded to TikTok by dvdgameexchangeutah or DVD Game Exchange. The Utah repairman was about to get to work on a “dead” PS5 supposedly killed by a storm power surge, only the culprit turned out to be cockroaches and their corresponding cockroach droppings all over the PS5’s internals.
In the video, the Utah repairman even zooms in on some of the components to show cockroach droppings all over them. “If you don’t know what that is, you’re privileged. If you know what it is, you know what cockroach [expletive] looks like,” reiterates the repairman. Hence, he outright refused to repair and look into the device further as he reserves “every right to refuse working on a device that has cockroach infestation.”
And sure enough, where there’s roach poop, there are also roaches, as the repairman spotted a moving adult German roach (the common cockroach), after another zoom-in on the broken PS5’s ventilation system. He then slammed the device shut and taped it to avoid infestation from creeping into his shop. “Don’t send us cockroaches,” he ranted after wrapping up the PS5.
People online are judging the roach-infested PS5’s owner
While the Utah repairman didn’t explicitly state who the owner of the broken PS5 was, people were quick to speculate that that person had bigger problems than a bricked gaming console. For one, the PS5 owner might need to do a deep cleaning of their home. Roaches usually won’t decide to live and scavenge in electronic devices unless other areas in the house are overpopulated.
“As a pest control technician of 30 years i can tell you that is German Cockroach fecal matter. if it’s that bad inside the ps5, you can only imagine what his house looks like,” explains another alleged expert. German roaches, for the record, are more prevalent and persistent than most other cockroach species. “If that’s his console imagine his home 😭😭 I feel so sad for him,” says another commenter.
There’s also a chance that the German roaches might have just chosen the PS5 as their sanctuary, and nothing else in the house. Hence, some people simply joked about the matter, as it’s not common to find an actual live bug inside your gaming device, much less for them to ruin it. “Bro just needed his console debugged,” jokes a commenter.
