In a future where grotesque monsters and deformed mutations of unknown origins dominate our world, a ragtag group of survivors (that’s you and your friends) must conquer the elements and climb the food chain to build a base, upgrade resources, and fend off deadly creatures. Luckily, if combat isn’t particularly your style, Once Human offers the option to toggle between PvP and PvE servers, which personalizes the experience for each individual player.
All of this information can get a little confusing, but here’s a handy guide to navigate you through the world of Once Human, no matter which server you choose.
PvP vs. PvE Servers in Once Human
Let’s boil down the absolute basics before we delve specifically into Once Human‘s gameplay. As standard, PvP stands for ‘Player versus player’ whereas PvE stands for ‘Player versus Environment.’ In short, if you want to fight against other local players, then PvP is the way to go. If you prefer to battle the elements and the pre-existing monsters only, PvE would be the alternative.
The Difference Between PvP and PvE Servers in Once Human
There are some significant differences between PvP and PvE Servers. For the fullest game experience, it would be worth giving the PvP servers a try. However, for players who are mainly interested in the exploration and dungeon elements of the game and generally dislike PvP combat, a PvE server might be the preferred choice.
How PvP Servers Work in Once Human
In PvP servers, Chaos players can attack any other player of level 10 or above at any time, regardless of whether the other player is currently in a Chaos state or not. In PvE servers, on the other hand, Chaos players can only attack other Chaos players and their buildings. In PvE servers, non-Chaos players will be invulnerable to PvP damage.
Also in PvP servers, if you build and activate Turrets or another type of attack unit in your Territory, these units will attack any Chaos player that comes within range. In PvE servers, your buildings are only vulnerable to attack from Chaos players during the Territory Purification process, and your Turrets or other attack units will only attack Chaos players during this time.
Once Human rolled out its third closed beta test on Friday, April 5, for PC/Steam players. The mobile test will commence on April 11, at 19:00 PDT.
