Before facing Louis at the end of the game, you can challenge three dragons to obtain rare armor. After defeating the three difficult bosses, you will accept the Essence of Power quest, where you must beat Elegy of the Soul in Metaphor: ReFantazio. This enemy is arguably the most challenging opponent that you must face. Besides taking your form, your opponent can also switch their Archetype, making the fight unpredictable. However, beating this enemy will reward you with a legendary weapon that will help immensely during the final boss fight.
How To Complete Essence of Power Quest
With the deaths of the three dragons, a seal has been unraveled inside the Dragon Temple. After reaching the final chamber where Drakodios was once kept, you must face a dark version of yourself called Elegy of the Soul. If you wish to face this enemy, I recommend reaching level 70, if not higher.
The main gimmick in this fight is that the boss can change its Archetype. That means it can access various moves and elemental attacks. Another important thing is that you must avoid wearing any gear that can repel or absorb attacks. If you try to cheat like this, the game will punish you by using an Almighty attack that will kill your whole team.
Here are all the Archetypes you can expect to encounter during the Elegy of the Soul boss fight:
- Seeker
- Warrior
- Knight
- Thief
- Masked Dancer
- Summoner
- Berserker
- Prince
On top of having access to various abilities that your own party can use, this boss can also use the Prince Archetype. The most dangerous attack, except for Armageddon’s Final Sire, is the Royal Sword, which can deal Almighty damage. You also need to be wary when the enemy uses the Masked Dancer class since this Archetype can inflict weakness.
As if that isn’t enough, Elegy of the Soul will initially have five turns. One will always be spent on changing its class, but that leaves four turns where it can inflict damage. At the end of the fight, it will gain eight turns, making this battle even more difficult.
Best Team Comp To Beat Elegy of the Soul in Metaphor: ReFantazio
Here’s the team comp you can use to beat the Elegy of the Soul boss fight in the Essence of Power quest:
- Prince – Protagonist
- Warlord – Strohl
- Royal Knight – Hulkenberg
- Savior – Eupha
The Prince is the strongest Archetype that the protagonist can use. Not only can he use Almighty’s abilities, but this class can also resist various attacks, increasing his survivability. You definitely want to spam Royal Sword since it can inflict the most damage.
You also need a character with a Warlord class. This Archetype’s main job will be to buff the protagonist, but it also has access to Megido, which you can use when you have the chance. I recommend buffing Evansion and Defense first before boosting your team’s attack.
Unfortunately, I didn’t unlock the Royal Knight when I attempted this fight, so it was much harder during my playthrough. However, having Hulkenberg use this class can make this battle much easier. With Magic Counter and Omni-Counter, you may have a chance for Hulkenberg to repel an attack from Elegy of the Soul, which will promptly end its turn. Not only that, but the Noble Knight’s Soul ability allows her to spam Proclamation without wasting her turn.
Obviously, you also need to bring a Healer to survive various attacks from this boss. I highly recommend unlocking the Savior class so you can use the most powerful healing skill. You can also inherit some abilities from the Summoner class if you want Eupha to deal damage besides healing the party.
Note that this boss fight has an invisible timer. When Elegy of the Soul is near death, it will cycle through all those classes until it reaches the Prince. If you allow it to change to the Prince Archetype, it will use Armageddon’s Final Sire, which will instantly kill your whole team. So go full offensive when it’s dying, or it will kill you first.
Completing the Essence of Power quest will grant you a powerful sword called Dragon’s Legacy. This gear can be used by characters with Seeker or Prince Archetypes. I recommend giving it to the protagonist since this sword can deal Almighty damage with its regular attacks.
