Guess who’s back? Radahn is back with a vengeance after you gate-crashed his festival in Elden Ring. Now, you’re gate-crashing Radahn’s ‘wedding’ with Miquella, his brother (classic George R.R. Martin). In the interest of stopping a man from ‘marrying’ his brother and destroying their imaginary world, it’s high time I give you a guide on how to beat Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. And here I thought Malenia was difficult.
Where to Find Radahn in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
It’s more a matter of ‘when’ instead of ‘where’ since he’s part of the main questline. But to sum it up, here are the major steps below on how to find Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. They also have their own location instructions in the links.
- Unlock Scadu Altus by going to Castle Ensis and defeating Rellana.
- Go to Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus, and defeat the Golden Hippopotamus.
- Defeat Messmer the Impaler, also in Shadow Keep.
- Go to the Ancient Ruins of Rauh (connected to Shadow Keep), and defeat Romina, Saint of the Bud.
- Burn the Sealing Tree.
- Progress through Enir-Ilim (final area, a legacy dungeon).
- Fight and defeat Needle-Knight Leda and friends. Bring your friends too (Mimic Tear, etc.).
- Defeat Promised Consort Radahn / Radahn, Consort of Miquella.
Everything else is just a detour, though you might miss some context on why you need to slay Miquella and Radahn if you fail to finish certain side-quests.
Regardless, Radahn in his prime is on the same level as Malenia, Blade of Miquella from the base game. So expect to lose hours of your life and sanity trying to defeat him. I can help lessen that, however.
How to Beat Radahn in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
It’s awfully similar to the Bayle the Dread boss fight where Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring will immediately assault you as soon as you enter the boss arena. If you get boxed in, cornered, or pinned to the wall, you’re dead; so try to run to the middle of the arena.
Radahn’s combos are relentless so don’t attack until he’s done. The sword attacks are manageable; however, the Gravity Sorcery barrage when he floats can be devastating. Try to roll through those sideways.
Before we get to the phases, here are the tips and pointers I recommend for Promised Consort Radahn / Radahn, Consort of Miquella. You can also cheese Radahn with these (I’ll discuss it later).
- Scadutree Blessing 15+. Otherwise, you’ll have a harder time.
- Max out your weapon or your Spirit Ashes (if you want to use one).
- Radahn can Bleed and is weak to it.
- He can be Parried.
- His weaknesses appear to be Frost and Hemorrhage.
- I recommend a Greatshield, at least 40 Endurance, and the Greatshield Talisman.
- Along with the Greatshield, I recommend a Bleed-infused Thrusting Weapon.
- Also, use Stamina tears on your Flask of Wondrous Physick.
- Constantly strafe and circle around him in melee, easier to avoid attacks that way.
How to Cheese Promised Consort Radahn With No Summons
Of course, there’s always the stubborn glass cannon “roll through everything” way of playing, but certain combos for this fight are nigh-unavoidable. Some of Radahn’s attacks are similar to Malenia’s Waterfowl Dance. Maybe the Elden Ring pros can find a way to dodge it reliably, but even then, it’s exhausting. One mistake, and you’re dead.
So the safer method is turtling behind a Greatshield. On top of that, use a Bleed Thrusting Weapon. Just block and poke. Radahn will usually Hemorrhage in 4-5 hits. For the record, I used a Blood Sword Lance (a Heavy Thrusting Sword I got from Commander Gaius).
This is what worked for me; it took me 30 minutes (deaths included) and no summons of any kind. It will be faster if you summon a Spirit Ash, of course.
Weapon | Blood (Bleed) Sword Lance +25 (Ash of War: Storm Blade) |
Off-hand | Fingerprint Stone Shield +25 (No Skill) |
Talismans | –Two-Headed Turtle Talisman –Greatshield Talisman –Spear Talisman –Shard of Alexander / Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman / Pearldrake Talisman |
Armor | Rakshasa Set |
Physick | –Greenburst –Greenspill |
It’s a tank build. Again, just block and poke. Mind your Stamina by lowering your shield for split-seconds. These are the only moves you shouldn’t block:
- Radahn and Miquella’s grab attack in Phase 2 (circle around it or dodge)
- Radahn’s meteor dive at around 30% HP (either run away or burst him down with Bleed so he can’t do it).
In my case, I was able to prevent him from doing the “insta-kill” meteor dive thanks to Hemorrhage and switching to aggressive attacks once Radahn was at 30% HP. For a more specific instruction during phases, read on.
Phase 1 of Promised Consort Radahn Boss Fight
Some tips for Phase 1:
- Drink your Physick Flash before entering; otherwise, you might not get a chance.
- Don’t stay near a wall after entering the arena, or Radahn will pin you there.
- Strafe around Radahn during his melee attacks to avoid some of the swings. Also, this helps you avoid Bloodflame Slashes (similar to Mohg).
- As soon as he flies and unleashes Gravity Sorcery, start sprinting sideways or dodging sideways.
- With Bleed Thrusting Sword + Greatshield or your chosen effective tactic, it will be easy to get Radahn to Phase 2.
Phase 2 starts at around 2/3 of Promised Consort Radahn’s HP. Radahn will get new attack moves to mix with his old ones and Miquella will also be joining the fight in his own way.
Phase 2 of Promised Consort Radahn Boss Fight
At the start of this Phase (soon after the cutscene) Radahn will levitate and charge up a light AoE attack. This is a perfect opportunity to use ranged throwables, Ashes of War, Sorceries, or Incantations. You can get 3-5 attacks in before you need to worry about the light beams.
After that, consider these tips again:
- It’s hard to dodge Radahn once he mixes up melee with light phantom attacks. I highly recommend a Shield of any kind or a Greatshield.
- For the magic light AoE, either spam roll or just block with a Greatshield (easier).
- As soon as you see him crossing his arms (grab attack) strafe or roll to the side.
- Avoid the grab. It doesn’t do damage, but if you get grabbed twice, you’re dead since Miquella will steal your ‘heart.’
If all goes well, you can bring Radahn down to low HP. Now you’re in danger again because this is where the ‘insta-kill’ move will happen. You can’t block it. You can roll through it, but the timing is too tight and risky. Opaline Bubble Tear or Crimson Bubble Tear also won’t work.
You will die if this Radahn meteor hits you.
How to Avoid the Radahn Meteor Dive
Again, at around 30% HP, Radahn will take off and turn into a meteor (similar to his meteor attack in the base game). Except this time, it will hit faster and you don’t have Torrent as an escape method.
Solution: As soon as Radahn takes off, run to the farthest edge of the boss arena. If you run far enough, the explosion won’t catch you. Some player anecdotes report that running to the left instead of the right is safer.
Another solution is to aggressively blitz Radahn with Bleed attacks so he dies before he can take off. This worked for me with a Heavy Thrusting Sword, but it might be easier to pull off with a regular Thrusting Sword or a faster Bleed weapon.
This might take you several tries for the Radahn, Consort of Miquella phase in Elden Ring before you can get it right. But dual deicide has never been this satisfying or conclusive in Elden Ring. It’s an epic sendoff to the game and an even more epic way to crash a wedding.
