Sea Turtle Breeding in Minecraft
If you want to breed Sea Turtles in Minecraft, the most important thing you need is Sand. The eggs won’t hatch otherwise. So, be sure you’re using Red or Regular Sand before beginning this process. As you will find Turtles in the beach biomes, you’re more than likely surrounded by it.
Now, let’s start the process of breeding our Minecraft Turtles:
- Find two Turtles and feed them Seagrass when they’re close to each other. Turtles will also follow you if you hold Seagrass. Use this trick to lure them to where you want your farm to be.
- After they enter love mode (floating hearts around them), one will return to their home area
- Near its spawn point, it will dig into the Sand to lay the eggs. They can lay anywhere from 1-4 eggs.
- You need to return to the home area with the Turtle for the eggs to hatch
The hatching process can take 4-5 in-game nights. But Turtles sure do like to breed. There’s a good chance they’ll lay more eggs before the original will hatch.
When the eggs are ready, you’ll hear the cracks and see these green-like icons around the eggs. Soon enough, you’ll be left with adorable baby turtles ready to join their parents. And thus your Turtle breeding in Minecraft was a rounding success.
Possible Issues Getting Baby Turtles
Sometimes, problems can creep up when breeding Sea Turtles. For instance, you might never hear or see the eggs cracking. One of the reasons for this is that you may have accidentally broken the eggs.
You cannot step over the eggs. This will break them. Only the Turtles can do that. Take care that your Turtle farm is somewhere safe too as other mobs can also damage the eggs.
Additionally, you can’t be too far away to breed Turtles in Minecraft. If you roam further out from the eggs, roughly 50 blocks or so, they might not hatch. They won’t hatch when you’re sleeping either.
Finally, if you know you’ve done everything else right and the eggs still won’t crack, there is a trick you can do. You’ll need to dip into console commands for this. If you don’t know how, you can check below for your specific Minecraft:
- Nintendo/PlayStation/Xbox: Press right on the D-pad (or in the right direction with the Joy-Con)
- PC: Press “T” or “/”
Once you have the command prompt up, type the following:
- /gamerule randomTickSpeed 20000
After, you should start seeing the hatching process on the eggs. And that’s all you need if you’re struggling to build your adorable Turtle farm in Minecraft.
