One of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Quest will task players to catch Desert Catfish. Although it isn’t a rare breed of fish, you might need some help locating them. If you need to finish the Quest or farm and sell those fish for some cash, read below for details on where to catch Desert Catfish in FFXIV: Endwalker.

FFXIV – How to Catch Desert Catfish

First of all, if you’re running the “A Fish out of Water” Quest, the Sisipu NPC will tell you to go to Forgotten Springs in “the southern reaches of Thanalan.” Well, it turns out that is a typo, and you should head to the east of Byregot’s Strike, the area labeled as Sagolli Dunes on your map. Now with that cleared up, go to Sagolii Dunes (X: 27, Y: 37). Remember that you have to get to Level 35 and finish the “Fish Passing in the Night” Quest first before you can attempt this one!

Catching Desert Catfish in FFXIV: Endwalker shouldn’t be too hard an endeavor. True to its name, this fish can only be found swimming in the sand instead of in bodies of water like ponds and lakes. It should appear at all times. Once you reach the location, you can use different kinds of Lure, especially Dune Fishing Lures, to catch it, and these four seem to be the most effective ones, according to player testimonies on the Eorzea Database site:

  • Sand Leech
  • Sand Gecko
  • Freshwater Boilie
  • Or Versatile Lure

Most of the Lures can be purchased from Merchant & Mendor in Southern Thanalan (X:15.9, Y:29) or Syneyhil at Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:6.3, Y:11.9). Also, make sure to use Snagging to increase your chance of fishing the, um, fish.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion pack is now available on PS5, PS4, and PC via Steam.
