Maintaining your gun is important to stay alive in the hostile post-apocalyptic land of Nalcott. Unlike melee weapons which only need to be repaired, ranged weapons also need to be fed bullets. There are various ammo types that you can craft and change using different Ore Ingots in Once Human, each dealing a different amount of damage. Once you have unlocked a better type of ammunition, you might want to ditch your old one unless you’re running low in the field. Here’s how to do it.

In Once Human, manually changing ammo types can be done by modifying your gun— using the same menu to add or remove attachments:

  1. Open the “Gear” menu by pressing K or Escape and selecting the option.
  2. Hover over the weapon you want to change the ammo type.
  3. “Modify” it by pressing Right Mouse Click.
  4. Select the “Accessory” tab.
  5. Select the “Ammo” option and pick which ammo type you want to use.

However, you can also set Once Human to automatically change ammo type when your gun runs out of bullets. For example, if you run out of Steel Ammo, then the game will instantly change to Copper the next time you reload. It can be tweaked in the “Automatically Switch Ammo When Mag Empty” setting in the “Control” section of the “Gameplay” option.
