Part of what keeps players returning to Warzone 2 time and time again is the DMZ game mode. The latest DMZ mission, Alpha Decay, has been overwhelmingly popular with fans, despite its difficulty. As with most of Warzone 2’s tier 5 missions, players will need to be on high alert if they want to exfiltrate successfully. We are here to provide a comprehensive guide on how to complete Alpha Decay in DMZ.
Surviving DMZ’s Alpha Decay
The Alpha Decay DMZ mission can be broken down into 3 vital phases. The three detailed objectives are as follows.
- Drop into Vondel and begin the prep phase
- Drill through the safe in the Radiation Zone
- Exfiltrate with the Irradiated Gas Canister
The setup phase is fairly straightforward. Upon loading into DMZ’s Alpha Decay mission, begin looting as usual. Be sure to pick up plenty of radiation blockers and gas masks, because the next step in the mission involves a trip to the radiation zone. Both of these items can be found inside hospitals and bathroom cabinets around the map.
Once you feel thoroughly prepped, check your map and head over to the radiation zone. Inside, there should be a small safe prompting you to interact with it. Should you interact with the safe, phase 2 will begin. Over the next five minutes, swarms of enemies will engulf you as you attempt to drill a hole through the vault. Here, DMZ’s Alpha Decay becomes a long and arduous game of survival, where you must protect the safe at all costs. Although cowardly, sitting in a corner with a clear line of sight to the vault tends to be the most efficient tactic here.

As soon as the safe pops open, grab the ‘Irradiated Gas Canister’ from inside. This is the toughest part of DMZ’s Alpha Decay – but extracting is no easy feat either! We recommend leaving a vehicle just outside of the radiation zone available for you to escape with if possible. If you are successful in making it out alive, you will be rewarded with a unique calling card, as well as 20,000 XP.
