You aren’t saving cats from trees, but you can still find ways to help the feline folk of Palia. The Better Days quest gives you a chance to do just that. Grimalkin storekeeper Zeki has lost a childhood toy, but he doesn’t know that. Once you stumble upon the toy, Better Days will kick off. It’s a quick and easy quest compared to hunting for Emberseeker Medallions, but Palia doesn’t do much to point you in the right direction. Help Zeki out though, and there’s more in it for you than just his friendship. Here’s how to get the cat toy and complete the Better Days quest in Palia.
Palia Better Days Cat Toy Guide

Before Zeki was a grown-up cat and a calculating businessman, he was a kitten, and Better Days starts with the discovery of his childhood Cat Toy. To find this item, visit Bahari Bay and walk to the ruins between Hideaway Bluffs and Windy Ruins. Inside the cave, you’ll find the Cat Toy. Deliver the Cat Toy to Zeki to find out what it means to him and begin the next stage of the quest.
The Cat Toy is a gift from Zeki’s mother, but there’s one problem. Zeki’s mother usually gives him a letter along with her gifts, but there’s no letter to be found. Zeki suspects it’s lost at sea. While finding a letter in the ocean might seem like an impossible task, it’s doable, assuming you have a fishing rod. Here’s how to get Zeki’s letter:
- Go to the coast in Bahari Bay
- Fish on the shore at Beachcomber Cove
- If you catch fish instead, keep going until you catch the Letter in a Bottle
Completing Better Days
Once you’ve reeled in the letter from Zeki’s mother, you’ll have the option of reading it before delivering it to him. It’s a warning, cautioning him that the Adders might know what the storekeeper is up to. What a sweet and ominous thing for a mother to say. Like Spread the Word and other Discovery quests, Better Days gives you a nice reward for its completion: a Lucky Coin. You can spend it at Zeki’s Wondrous Machine for a random reward. Your relationship with Zeki will also improve, bringing you a little closer to the Whiskered Wonder himself.
