As you progress through the tutorial, you will meet various mentors who will teach you the basics of surviving dragons. Zanik is your third teacher, and she is in charge of showing you how to use Runes and cast Spells in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. But before you get straight into the action, you must complete a couple of tasks to use magic like an expert. You must train your magic power before hunting those pesky dragons.

What Do You Need to Craft Runes and Cast Spells in RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

Once you find Zanik, she will first ask you to collect x50 Wood Logs, which you can quickly get by cutting down trees in the area. Zanik will also give you a brief tutorial on how to cut down trees more efficiently. Once you have the logs, you will need to do the following:

  1. Zanik will ask you to go to one of the geysers with purple energy and floating rocks to get Rune Essence. You only have to use your Pickaxe with the “rocks” on the ground.
  2. You will also have to craft a Rune Altar. So open the Build Menu and select the Rune Altar in the Crafting part; you will need x12 Stone and x17 Rune Essence. You will need more Rune Essence to create the Runes on the Altar.
  3. Talk to Zanik again, and she will give you a Woodcutting Tome; use it to learn the Spell. Use L1 or Q to open the Spells Quick Menu, select a spell, and point to where you want to cast it.
