Out of all the optional bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Bourgeons might be the most recurring ones. These towering foes aren’t too difficult to defeat, yet they take a while to kill. To make things worse, they will “take away” one of your party members. This means your DPS potential will be severely affected. If you’re struggling to beat them or just want a few tips to take them down faster, here’s a quick guide to help you defeat these giant Nevrons.
Bourgeon Bosses Guide

Most Bourgeon bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are entirely optional. However, they drop a few quest-related items, which might be worth pursuing. Here’s the recommended strategy for these mini-bosses. Mini might not be the correct term for them, but you get the idea.
- The time when you’ll face a Bourgeon might vary. Regardless of when you face one, always bring Sciel and Lune with healing abilities, as well as Gustave/Verso.
- Most Bourgeons are weak to Electric attacks. Lune will be great. However, there’s one thing that will make the fight more challenging: the provisional loss of a party member.
- During the Bourgeon’s first turn, it will eat a party member, removing it from the fight until you break the Bourgeon. The reason we recommend the above party composition is that if the Bourgeon eats any of those party members, others can easily fill the role.
- If the enemy eats Verso/Gustave, your healer will be Lune, and your main DPS will be Sciel. If the Bourgeon eats Lune or Sciel, the other can heal while also doing damage. Regardless of the situation, you’re covered on all fronts.
- To beat the Bourgeon, all you need to do is break it as fast as possible. Verso/Gustave are great for this, especially since their abilities don’t require a lot of turns to do high amounts of damage. However, Sciel is excellent here, especially if she has Chation as her weapon, which doubles the number of stacks she applies to enemies.
- You can also swap Lune for Maelle for increased DPS in her Virtuous Stance, but you’ll be losing some healing skills.
In truth, the fight isn’t that challenging; it’s more of a race against the clock. All you need to do is break Bourgeons as quickly as possible, and if there are extra foes in the fight, focus on them first.
Rewards will vary after defeating this enemy, but you’ll always get a Bourgeon Skin, which you can use for specific quests.
