One of the recurring encounters in Hollow Knight: Silksong involves Lace, a skilled swordfighter. While the first fight against her occurs quite early in the game, that doesn’t mean it is a walk in the park. It is pretty challenging, especially since Hornet is still getting some of her skills back. So, if you’ve hit a wall with this boss fight, we’ve made a quick guide to show you the easiest way to outmaneuver Lace.
Lace Boss Guide (First Encounter)
You’ll encounter Less in the Deep Docks area of Hollow Knight: Silksong, but you will only be able to reach her arena by unlocking the Swift Step ability first. Once you do that, head to the far right of the area and perform a dash jump to reach the level and open the gate leading to the fight.
Once you face Lace, you’ll notice that her moveset is quite simple. However, she’s a very agile swordfighter, meaning that you’ll have to be on the move at all times, as you dodge her attacks and also try to get a few hits in.

For the first phase, focus on spamming plunging attacks. These are easy to perform, and you can even chain a few if you get the timing right. If not, always land one hit and then retreat. At this moment, you’ll already be able to dash while in the air or on the ground, which can help you dodge a few of her moves. If you manage to stun her, you’ll be able to hit her three or four times and then back away.

The second phase will begin as soon as Lace performs an area attack with a glowing circle. Run away from it and wait for Lace to smash the ground. Once she does that, perform a plunging attack to damage her. Repeat the strategy until you defeat her.
Also, it is essential to note that Lace has a countermove. If you hit her too quickly, she’ll raise her blade in a blocking stance, parry your next blow, and then follow with a fast stabbing attack. Do not hit her when she takes this stance, as the aforementioned move can take two chunks out of your HP.
Once you defeat her, Lace will move out of the arena, and you will be able to continue the story of Hollow Knight: Silksong. There isn’t a reward at this time, but it is a good fight to get you warmed up for what’s to come.
