The first Chromatic boss you’ll face in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the Chromatic Lancelier. By now, you should be familiar with some of the game’s mechanics and how Pictos work, and maybe even have practiced dodging and parrying a few times. However, this boss is out of everyone’s league during the early hours. Yes, returning to it after leveling up might be a good choice, but there’s actually a quick way to beat it while you practice your defensive skills.

Many places will tell you to level up first and then return to beat the Chromatic Lancelier in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but that’s not the best way. It will take a while to beat, but with good enough timing, you can avoid all of its attacks. Plus, it is weak to one specific element and has a weak point, making the fight a little bit easier. Just a bit, though. Here’s the strategy we recommend:

  • You can only bring Gustave and Lune for this fight, so make sure the latter has her Ice Lance equipped. The Chromatic Lancelier is weak to Ice.
  • At this time, you should have the Dodger Picto. Equip it for an extra AP when you dodge once.
  • When the fight begins, use Gustave to shoot at the weak point, which is the floating orb in the middle of the Lancelier’s body.
  • Spam Ice Lance with Lune and then cast Immolation to consume the Ice Stains for increased damage.
  • The Lancelier’s attacks have terrible timing, which means parrying will be extremely difficult here. Furthermore, this boss can kill a party member with a full combo, so parrying is out of the question. Instead, focus on dodging whenever it attacks. Performing a perfect dodge is ideal, as it will give you the AP from the Dodger Picto.
  • If your Lune is still alive, you’ll be doing damage with Ice Lance while also applying Burning stacks to it. Of course, Gustave is the main DPS here, so prioritize building up charges to attack with a fully charged Overcharge.

Once you beat it, you’ll obtain the Lanceram weapon for Gustave (level 2), the Augmented Attack Picto (level 2), Chroma Catalyst x2, and Colour of Lumina x5.
