Fontaine is the region of water so it is to be expected that you can explore the underwater world in this area. Although many of the aquatic creatures are tame and nice, you will encounter some hostile enemies while swimming. Since you can’t use your regular attacks, you need to be creative at defending yourself. One of the challenges you must deal with in Genshin Impact is Bullet Barnacles. This annoying creature will continuously shoot at you, but you can borrow the ability of an Xenochromatic animal to destroy Bullet Barnacles.

If you want to destroy Bullet Barnacles in Genshin Impact, you must absorb the ability of Xenochromatic Armored Crab. You can find these glowing creatures throughout the underwater world of Fontaine. They look like regular Armored Crab but they have blue color instead of regular orange and yellow.
You can find several of them near the Pale Forgotten City Domain. Once you see one, press the L2 button and point at the creature. Your character will whip out a blue energy tendril that will absorb Xenochromatic Armored Crab’s ability. To use it, you can either press or hold R2.
For regular attack, you can quickly press R2 which will send a weak bubble toward your enemy. The best way to use this skill is to hold R2 to create a barrier. Besides absorbing oncoming damage, this shield will enhance your regular attack.
When you encounter a Bullet Barnacle, just point your reticle at the creature. Wait for it to shoot you and absorb the energy. Afterward, just release the R2 trigger to send your own attack to destroy that Bullet Barnacle.
Besides using Xenochromatic Armored Crab’s skill to destroy Bullet Barnacles, you can also utilize this ability for other activities:
- Destroy underwater large stones
- Harvest aquatic crystals
- Block Water Vents’ currents
