Learning how to Drive Rush is crucial in Street Fighter 6. As part of the new Drive System mechanics, Drive Rush is a dash move that can be used to pressure your opponents and extend combos. Doing so should expose them to mistakes or deal even more damage. However, you cannot simply spam this move as you like. Just like with other Drive Systems, performing Drive Rush will eat up your Drive Gauge, the green blocks below your health. Now that you have known the basics, let’s see how to Drive Rush in Street Fighter 6.

Drive Rush is a special dash move. When you successfully perform it, your character’s body will be enveloped in a splash of bright colors as they run forward. And then this dash can be canceled into any normal attacks like jabs or special moves such as Shoryuken or also known as Dragon Punch. As explained in the tutorial, there are two ways to perform Drive Rush in Street Fighter 6.

First, the Drive Rush can be canceled by a Drive Parry. Press Medium Punch + Medium Kick with Triangle + O on PlayStation or Y + B on Xbox to do a Drive Parry. Then, as your character is glowing blue and still doing the Parry, press Forward twice. If you do it successfully, your character should be running forward. Hold the buttons to keep running, release the buttons to stop, or cancel it with any attack moves. Remember that this dash costs one and a half Gauge; a Drive Parry costs half a Drive Gauge bar and the Drive Rush will eat one bar.

The second way to perform Drive Rush in Street Fighter 6 is by tapping Forward twice out of any normal attack moves. For example, do a jab or kick then press Forward twice. If you do it successfully, your character should be running forward. Doing a Drive Rush this way is more risky though since it costs three Drive Gauge bars. Nevertheless, it helps prevent people from spamming the dash and doing combos that are too long.

However, there is actually one more way to do Drive Rush that’s not covered by the tutorial. Most veteran players have already discovered this tech, but it is popularized by fighting game streamer Maximillian Dood. Instead of Parrying first and then pressing Forward twice, you can press Forward and then Forward and Parry at the same time. Turning the input from Parry > Forward x2 to Forward > Parry + Forward. This method of how to Drive Rush in Street Fighter 6 is actually much faster since you combine two inputs into one.

If you managed to pull off Drive Rush consistently in Street Fighter 6, you should be able to open more combo routes for your characters. Even giving the pokes and grapple-focused Zangief much more combo potential, as shown by fighting game YouTuber Desk in the video below.
