After finishing Act 1, and assuming you went for the Mask of Terror first, the next location you’ll visit in Hell Is Us is the Blood Queen’s Tomb. However, just like other main story locations, you’ll have to go through many hoops and puzzles to reach it. So, if you’re still trying to figure out the solution to all the brain teasers or just need a quick walkthrough for this questline, here’s a guide to help you find and enter the Blood Queen’s Tomb in Hell Is Us.
Blood Queen’s Tomb Questline Walkthrough
Entering the Blood Queen’s Tomb in Hell Is Us will actually take some time because you need to complete a few smaller quests before reaching this spot. However, if you know where to go and who to talk with, it will be a breeze.
The first thing you must do is reach Marastan, which gets unlocked after you complete the main quest in Talju. Once you arrive, head toward the stairs that lead to the church, and look for an NPC who is at the top of a building and only has one arm.
His name is Talis, and he will give you the first breadcrumbs to open the Blood Queen’s Tomb. You need to exhaust the dialogue and ask him how to enter the Tomb, and he will tell you that he has the key to the observatory that shows the Tomb’s location, but he will only help if you defeat some enemies.
Agree to help him and head to the church to defeat the group of enemies outside of it. They aren’t particularly challenging, and you can defeat them quickly if you use Grief abilities that apply DoT effects. Once that is done, return to Talis to get the Observatory Key.
With the key in your possession, look for the big Blood Queen statue and walk toward it. You’ll find a small road that leads to the observatory.
Approach the gate and use the key. Keep going forward, defeat the enemies, save your progress, and go inside the tunnel. Here, you can go straight to continue the quest, but if you take a left, you can meet a new NPC and complete a Good Deed, so you can do that before continuing. In any case, climb the ladder to reach the observatory and scan all the writings on the wall.
First, you will need to look through the telescope to locate the Blood Queen’s Tomb in Hell Is Us, which is quite close to where you parked the APC.
To reach the entrance shown through the telescope, all you must do is take a right from your APC and follow that small road until you reach the Tomb; it is pretty easy to find.
However, you’ll need to solve a puzzle, or rather, a couple of puzzles, to open it. Before leaving the observatory, look for the writing on the wall that shows a building with a yellow eagle at the top. Scan it, and it will say the following:
“Buried amongst the eagles lies the means to reach the Queen. When eastward face the six, its secrets you will glean.”
If you want the not-so-cryptic TL;DR, all you must do is find the cemetery, which is near the stairs in the main street of this area, and move all eagle statues until every single one is facing east. You can do this by pulling out your compass and rotating all statues until they are facing that direction.
Once you align all the statues, a coffin will open, unveiling a new path leading to a tomb. Defeat the enemies and explore the whole area to locate three tablet fragments. Finding the fragments is pretty easy, as this zone is small and straightforward. The real challenge is the enemies inside.
Once you have the three fragments, head to the Blood Queen’s Tomb location mentioned above, and place them in the middle.
Here comes the next part of the puzzle. To finally open the Blood Queen’s Tomb in Hell Is Us, you must align the pillars with the icon on the ground. For instance, if you’re going for the Branch icon, you have to rotate the pillar so that the icon on it faces the one on the ground. You can use the image below as an example.
Repeat this for all four icons, and the Tomb will open. Step inside, defeat the enemies, and the final puzzle begins.
Here, there’s a lot of lore you want to read to understand a bit more about the Blood Queen, but since completing the puzzle is the priority, let’s get straight to the point.
Each writing on the wall tells parts of the Blood Queen’s story in a chronological way. The code you must input should be in chronological order, which is:
“Swords, Crown, Eye, and Tower.”
Rotate the symbols so they resemble the image above, and you’ll open the coffin. Grab all the contents inside it, and you’ll be free to continue with the main story. Also, contrary to other zones, there aren’t any missable quests here, so you can always return after completing the game’s second act and before finishing the game.
