Contrary to other base-builders, StarRupture puts more emphasis on the exploration aspect, encouraging players to scour the map for abandoned bases and hidden locations. Some of the latter include underground caves, which are areas that are only accessible under certain conditions. Since the game doesn’t tell you how to open them, here’s a quick guide on how to enter underground caves in StarRupture.
Opening Underground Caves
So far, the only way to open underground caves in StarRupture is by waiting for the Ruptura to occur. As you know, this event that happens throughout the game incinerates the whole planet. Besides respawning resources, this seems to be the only way to enter underground caves, which makes sense, as the fiery wave burns all the roots covering these locations.
The easiest way to open one is to locate the cave on your map first. After that, we recommend building a base close to it. Place a few habitats for protection and some personal storage in case you want to free some inventory space. Once that’s done, wait for the game’s alert about Ruptura.

Once the planet gets hit by the fiery wave, wait a bit until everything cools off. As soon as the game tells you that the temperatures are stabilizing, get out of your base and head toward the underground cave. You’ll notice it’ll be open now.

The items you’ll find inside the cave may vary, but we’ve noticed the caves usually contain Quartz, which you’ll need for some recipes down the line. You can also find some Glowcaps, and if you’re lucky enough, you might even encounter some dead bodies with some helpful items. In our case, we found one with War Bonds and a LEM, so exploring these places is not a bad idea if you want some character upgrades or rare materials.
In any case, make sure to check your map for any Underground Caves, and build a base near them so you can enter them after every Ruptura. If you get trapped inside, shoot the red thing inside the cave to get out.
