The elven gods have attacked the Crossroads by spreading the blight into this vital region. The Caretaker will ask you to cleanse this area from corruption. To do that, you need to defeat three champions and face Solas’ regrets. One of the monsters you have to defeat in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Slaughter of the Pillars boss. You can only face this creature after progressing through the main story, where you can beat the champion that holds the essence.

To challenge the Slaughter of the Pillars boss in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you will need to defeat the Disciple in Ichor. This is a monster that you will face during the Something Wrong main quest at Hossberg Wetlands. The Wardens will ask you to collect some Blight samples, and you will need to visit the Old Crossroads.

This area is quite huge, and you can encounter numerous Darkspawns. After breaking some cysts, you will eventually use the crossbow to shoot at the wall. The Disciple in Ichor will barge in at this moment, and you must face this Level 30 enemy.

Like all bosses, the Disciple in Ichor will have a barrier you can break with a charged attack. Be careful, though, because this monster will mainly target you unless you have Darvin, who can taunt the boss. You can also use powerful abilities to remove a chunk from the barrier’s HP bar.

Most of the enemy’s attacks will be unblockable, so it’s always better to dodge them. While the boss mainly uses melee attacks, it can also teleport away to launch an aerial AoE attack. Watch out for the poison plants when you dodge in this swamp since they will explode if you crash into one.

The best time to deflect the boss’ attack is when it is swinging its mace. You will usually have two chances of deflecting before it uses an unblockable attack. If you manage to do it, this will stun the boss, allowing you to get free hits.

How To Beat

Once you have the champion essence, you can go to the Gate of Parched Hopes at the Crossroads. The Slaughter of the Pillars boss is a Level 37 enemy who will mainly use its shield and spear. It will also sometimes summon some mobs that will aid it during the battle.

It is vulnerable to Necrotic damage and resistant to Ice. The best teammates to bring are Emmrich and Lucanis. The two have various abilities that can inflict Necrotic damage. It would be best to change your weapon to one that can deal with this element, but if that’s not possible, just avoid using one with an Ice element.

You can easily dodge most of the Slaughter of the Pillars’ attacks by moving around the monster. Besides trying to stab you with its spear, it can also send projectiles via its shield. After you’ve broken its barrier, it will try to recover by absorbing the power of the Fade tear. You have to break its new barrier, or it will unleash an AoE attack and recover its HP.

Its most annoying move is the Blight thorns that will stay on the arena for around ten seconds. You won’t be able to get past this obstacle, but the boss can. Sometimes, my allies even got trapped on the other side, and I had to deal with the boss alone.

Beating the Slaughter of the Pillars boss will reward you with these items:

  • EXP x350
  • Etheric Remnant x5
  • Mourn Watch Strength x100
  • Andraste’s Will Unique Ring x1
