Hans can’t seem to stay out of trouble. As if saving him once wasn’t enough, Henry must rescue his friend a second time. During the Taking French Leave main quest, you will need to infiltrate Maleshov through a hidden path. After navigating tight tunnels, Henry will emerge from the tower. Fortunately, some of the soldiers will leave to accompany Von Bergow. Besides saving Hans, you can also find Rosa’s book within the castle in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
KCD2 Taking French Leave Quest Guide

Since Maleshov Castle is heavily guarded, you need to use a secret passage to enter. Although Rosa tries to be helpful, her instructions are rather difficult to follow. For those struggling in the Taking French Leave quest, you can head directly to this location to find the entrance. Unfortunately, it’s buried, and you’ll need to use a shovel to clear the dirt. If the game says something is blocking the way, move your horse and dog away from the area.
Before heading into the secret passage, remember to pull out your torch since it’s completely pitch black in there. Hug the left wall and follow it until you see a brick wall. Henry will slowly pull down the loose bricks to make a small entrance. Once you pass through, you will enter the Maleshov castle.
Where To Find Rosa’s Book and Hans in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
If you want to retrieve Rosa’s book and save Hans, follow these steps:
- Head south and enter the building to your right.
- Knock out the woman and grab the keys.
- Go out and head east until you see a soldier.

- Knock him out and drag his body into the previous building.
- Go up the wooden stairs and enter the left room.
- Slowly climb up until you see two soldiers talking.
- Wait and hide until they move to the adjacent room.
- Climb up the stairs until you reach the highest floor.
To find Hans, you need to enter the room next to the lamp. A cutscene will play, and the two friends will reunite. Unfortunately, Hans refuses to use the secret passage. Henry’s next objective is to find two weapons for Hans and Brabant. To do this, head downstairs and enter the first room on your right.

You will encounter a sleeping woman in the bed, but you can safely ignore her. There are two swords in this room that you can take and offer to your allies. However, before leaving, be sure to go to the window and grab the red book. This is Rosa’s book, and you must remember to take it, as this area will no longer be accessible after this mission.
How To Escape from Maleshov

After obtaining Rosa’s book and offering weapons to Hans and Brabant, you can head outside again. You need to ensure the path is clear for a quick escape. To do this, you must knock out three guards. The first one is a patrolling guard who sometimes stands near the drawbridge. You must knock him out so Hans can escape unnoticed.
The second guard patrols from the stable to the northeastern wall. If you want to knock him out, make sure the guard next to the gate isn’t near. After taking down the second guard, you can deal with the last guard at the gate. Once all three are down, stand behind the cart and pull out your torch to signal Hans. After Hans and Brabant reach the stable, you can open the gate and finally escape the castle.
There will be a lengthy cutscene after you complete the Taking French Leave mission. Before continuing the main story, remember to return Rosa’s book. She’ll be in her room at Kuttenberg, and you can even try to pursue a romantic relationship with her.
