Last Epoch may have just released its 1.0 update, but that’s not stopping it from facing new issues as players try to sign in. Extreme server demand and impressive prospective player counts make Error Code Le-61 the last thing anybody wants to see in Last Epoch, even if they can fix it. Here’s what you can do to enjoy this hotly anticipated dungeon crawler.

Error Code Le-61 is an issue with matchmaking at Fortress Gardens in Last Epoch. The only troubleshooting tip is to join a friend who has successfully joined the server. However, you may have to wait beyond this as the servers adjust to the recent demand.

This isn’t even the first time server issues have plagued a highly anticipated launch affecting hundreds of thousands of players. Helldivers 2 is experiencing a similar problem, albeit on a slightly larger scale. It’s creating a wave of disastrous launches for otherwise good games, which can be nerve-wracking for players excited about an upcoming pre-order.

How to Enter Fortress Gardens in Last Epoch

If you want to join a Last Epoch session without the annoying troubles of the Le-61 Error while hitting up Fortress Gardens, your best bet is either:

  • Join a friend already in session.
  • Create and use an Offline character.
  • Wait until servers adjust to the influx of players.

It’s a good idea to have backup characters like this in case of future server issues. While Online characters are stored online, Offline characters can be used whenever you want, albeit best saved for when you want to experience the game alone.

Unfortunately, the best solution for players wanting to go online is to wait, and it’s hardly a consolation that its hype has likely contributed to this issue. Players want to play and have spent hard-earned money to get the chance to enjoy it the way they were promised.

Offline mode is selectable from the Main Menu of the game. While it’s a more limited experience, it’s a good feature for the current server load issues. Players unfortunately can’t transfer characters back and forth, as this has been a known downside to the feature for a year at this point, but at least it’s available.
