However, this isn’t an error on the players’ side, which is both good and bad. For the former, it is great because players don’t have to uninstall the game, move files around, or do a ritual to enter the game. The “Character Download Failure” error in Dune: Awakening seems to occur due to a high server load. With that in mind, the early hours after the game’s launch will give out errors such as the aforementioned one. Yet, it has an easy fix, or rather, has been fixed already.
Redditor nevayo, who is part of the Funcom staff on Reddit, mentioned that the issue has been fixed. Apparently, it was happening due to server outages and a few other hiccups, but all of them were on Funcom’s side and not caused by players. So, contrary to other errors you might find in different games, you don’t have to do anything here.
In the strange case that you’re still experiencing this, the only real solution is restarting the game. Doing so fixed it for many, even before Funcom patched the issue. So, if you’re still experiencing this, just go ahead and restart the game.
Can You Transfer Your Character to Other Servers?
Since the “Character Download Failure” in Dune Awakening was caused by a server overload, many players wondered if transferring characters to a server with a lower population was possible. At the time of writing, we haven’t found the option to do so. It would seem that if you want to play on a server with fewer players, you need to create a new character, which might be a hassle for some. So, the best thing to do right now is to wait for your server to become less congested. Yet, if you haven’t progressed that far into the game, restarting isn’t a bad idea.
