Have you ever felt annoyed at a weapon with a unique ability you wished a different weapon had? Well, in FF7 Rebirth, you don’t have to feel that way. Weapon Proficiency allows access to new abilities that, once unlocked, are available on any weapon. So, you can branch out in your fighting style and use whatever weapon satisfies you the most without sacrificing any abilities. But we need to gain Weapon Proficiency in the first place to enjoy this Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth feature.

The only way to earn Weapon Proficiency is to use the weapon in question. So, equip the weapon whose abilities you want access to and make it your best friend in the coming battles. You get steady points each time you fight with this specific weapon.

However, if you want to score a higher point boost in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, focus on performing the Proficiency Bonus skill. For instance, in the image above, Red’s Renegade’s Collar features a Bonus that details “Finish off an enemy.” If we want to receive more points toward that specific collar, we must ensure Red defeated enemies while wearing it. Once we do, we’d gain the Crescent Claw ability in our arsenal for any weapon.

And that’s all you need to do to build up Weapon Proficiency points in FF7 Rebirth. But it’s best to focus on specific weapons at a time before moving on to different ones. This way, you can gain a comfortable amount of abilities and skills to add to your moveset over time.

How To Check Weapon Proficiency

You can keep an eye on where any Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth weapon you have is at concerning its Proficiency rating by viewing it in the equipment menu. Under “Ability Info,” check for the name of the ability. Below that is a colored bar. This bar indicates just how far you’ve gone in earning the Proficiency. There’s also a great description of the ability too.

That aspect is why it’s a good idea to check on every weapon you loot or buy in FF7 Rebirth. Equip them and go to that equipment menu screen to read up on the description. This way, you’ll know if the weapon is even worth using constantly to raise its Proficiency level. One of the best things about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is how you can change up your combat, so be sure to focus on abilities you enjoy and want to unlock.
