An Egg Move is a special move that a Pokemon usually cannot learn just from leveling up or via TM but can obtain through breeding a new Egg of said Pokemon. There are two ways you can get and transfer Egg Moves in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: through the normal Egg breeding and the new Picnic feature way. Below, we’ll teach you how both of these ways work so you can pick the one you like the most.

How to Get Egg Moves Normally via Breeding in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet replaced the previous games’ Day Care with Picnic. Throughout the game, you will be able to automatically breed compatible Pokemon (the ones in the same Egg Group or a Ditto) after setting up a Picnic Table. Just wait for a while, and there’s a chance that an Egg or several Eggs will appear when you interact with the Picnic Table’s Egg Basket.
Moves from both parents will then be inherited by the child Pokemon that hatches from the Egg. For example, you can give the Belly Drum move to an Eiscue by breeding male Zangoose with Belly Drum with a female Eiscue. However, if the parent Pokemon are from different Egg Groups, then the hatched species will be dictated by its mother, and any move won’t transfer.
You can also increase the production of eggs by giving your Pokemon sandwiches a high egg power effect. Look for Fillings and Condiments that raise Egg Power, such as:
Filling | Condiment |
Apple | Jam |
Banana | Whipped Cream |
Basil | Olive Oil |
Kiwi | Marmalade |
Strawberry | Vinegar |
Watercress |
How to Get Egg Moves by Picnic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
A Reddit user u/conjunctivious has found an interesting method to transfer compatible Egg Move between two Pokemon regardless of Egg Group, species, and gender — and without having to hatch Eggs to boot!
First of all, you would need two Mirror Herb items, which can be purchased for 30,000 PokeDollars per piece at the Delibird Presents in Cascarrafa. Give the two Pokemon you want to transfer the moves Mirror Herbs, bring them to a Picnic together, left them for a bit, then close the Picnic. When you check one of their stats, the Pokemon should learn that particular Egg Move!
Taking conjunctivious’s example, here’s how it works:
- Miraidon (genderless and a Legendary Pokemon that can’t breed) has the Parabolic Charge move.
- Tadbulb can learn Parabolic Charge as an Egg Move, so remove one move from the Tadbulb that you don’t need first.
- Open up a slot by pressing A on the moves screen and selecting Forget a Move option.
- Make sure both Pokemon are holding a Mirror Herb.
- Have them both on a Picnic together. You don’t need to remove other Pokemon from your party.
- When you close the Picnic, the Egg Move should transfer over, and it won’t consume any Mirror Herb, so you can do this repeatedly.
But keep in mind that according to words on the street, Egg Moves are transferred from “top to bottom.” If Miraidon has multiple Egg Moves that can be transferred, then make sure to order them properly so the intended moves are transferred to Tadbulb. Conjunctivious added that the process should be “instant,” they only set up the Picnic for around 20 seconds, and the Parabolic Charge move from Miraidon has already transferred to Tadbulb. However, TM moves from one Pokemon to another and cannot be transferred through this method.
