Although Hightail Lizards are kind of big for a lizard, they are challenging to catch in Tears of the Kingdom. This lizard species runs around with its reddish tails in various corners of Hyrule. But, alas, they are considered Formula One champions. So you must learn when is the right time to catch them and the effects they can have on Link.

You’ll find the Hightail Lizards in the depths of Hyrule’s caves. Remember this handy trick to make your exploration easier: pass by any Cherry Blossom and offer a single fruit from your inventory or its surroundings. By doing so, you can summon the illuminating powers of Satori’s magic. This mystical companion will light up the entrances of all visible caves in Hyrule. Choose the nearest one and seek out the Hightaild Lizards within.

Another habitat for these rare critters can be found beneath rocks and boulders, primarily in the expansive regions of Hyrule Fields and Hyrule Ridge. So keep your eyes peeled in these two areas for a chance to encounter these marvelous lizards.

There’s one final method to acquire Hightail Lizards. Make your way to a conveniently located stable, where you’ll undoubtedly come across the merchant Beedle. Strike up a conversation with this merchant extraordinaire, and you can secure your very own Hightail Lizard for a few rupees.

To successfully capture these lizards, seize the fleeting moment within two seconds of spotting them. Delaying your actions will only result in these cunning creatures darting away in a single direction. To avoid startling them, getting the Stealth Outfit from Kakariko Village’s General Store might be a good idea.

Use the Hightail Lizard as a valuable ingredient for crafting elixirs. Combine this creature with any monster part in a cauldron, and create a new magical elixir. However, keep in mind that consuming this elixir won’t increase your heart count, nor will it grant you any restorative effects upon traversing the Gloom, unlike other lizard-based elixirs.

The primary effect of the Hightail Lizard elixir is an enhancement in speed. It makes you sprint, swim, and climb faster.

Another equally important purpose for this insect is to trade it for brown dye to customize your clothing. So make your way to Hateno Village and exchange your hightailed lizard for a stylish addition to your wardrobe.
