A Dark- and Steel-type Pokemon with an affinity for battle, Kingambit can lead even the most cowardly Caterpie into combat. The whole point of getting a Pawniard and Bisharp is to develop them into their ultimate form, after all. Even if you don’t care about assembling the ultimate Steel-type team, Kingambit is a great pick. One big reason? Style. With an armored appearance that’s as much Feudal Japanese as it is insectoid, this pumped-up Pawniard is one attention-grabbing pet. Here’s how to get Kingambit in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

This Big Blade Pokemon from Gen IX has two abilities: Defiant and Supreme Overlord, with Pressure as a hidden ability. If you’re looking for a high Attack and Defense (at a notable sacrifice of Speed and Special Attack), Kingambit is one to get, even if it won’t replace your Legandaries any time soon. Here’s what you need to do to get Kingambit for yourself in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:
- Get a Pawniard in Area 5 and evolve it into Bisharp at Level 52
- Alternatively, catch a Bisharp in the bamboo forest (northern province)
- Optionally, teach Bisharp some Fighting moves to make the upcoming fights easier
- Put Bisharp at the front of your party
- Go to Area Two of the northern province
- Find and defeat three Bisharps that carry a Leader’s Crest (they’ll be surrounded by four Pawniard)
- Level your Bisharp to 54, if it isn’t already
With the three Bisharps defeated, your own Bisharp will evolve into Kingambit. Despite its name, your Pokemon does not need to hold a Leader Crest for this evolution to occur. The Crest is only important as a marker for which Bisharps you need to defeat. It’s a much more convoluted evolutionary process than most Pokemon have, but getting Kingambit is worth it. Nothing says “quality” like a giant sword mustache.
