You’ll soon discover that Scouts are some of the most helpful members in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. At first, you’ll only use them to find objectives and gather a few materials out in the world. However, the more you progress through the story and the more you upgrade certain things, the more useful they’ll become. Scouts can even help you get more gear with the right upgrades. However, since you don’t have a lot at first, you should prioritize getting more league members as soon as possible.
Obtaining Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Alright, let’s start things from the very first Scouts you’ll get in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Once you finish the tutorial and unlock your hideout, you’ll get to build your Kakurega. There are many of them across the map, but the important one is inside your hideout. Don’t worry. They have the same function. The only different thing about the main one is the ability to decorate it and buy upgrades. Regardless, you’ll get your first three Scouts from following the main story, which also includes building the abovementioned building.

Once you get enough resources, you should focus on building the Study. This will be the primary building that will let you get more Scouts in the game. If you have the resources, build it as soon as possible. Once you locate it anywhere in your hideout, head inside to start upgrading it.

As you can see in the above image, each upgrade provides you with a new Scout. If you fully upgrade your Study, you’ll have three in total, raising the total Scout count to six. However, the maximum amount of Scouts is nine, which means there is another way to obtain more.

For the final three, you’ll need to complete the following missions and defeat one specific character:
- Tea Bowls for Rikyu (must complete the whole quest).
- Spare Munetoshi from the Nobutsuna Sensei’s Students Quest.
- Spare Shido while pursuing the Pirate Alliance targets.
If you follow those steps, you should reach the maximum number of Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, it may take a bit of time, as some side objectives are locked behind finishing certain story missions.
How To Use Scouts

All Scouts can do the following things:
- Search the map for quest objectives.
- Smuggle resources back to your hideout at the end of every season.
- Clear your “wanted level” in a region.
Yet, if you upgrade your hideout to level 8, the scouts you didn’t use will bring you gear at the end of every season, which is useful if you want to dismantle it for materials.
While it may take some time to unlock every Scout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you should prioritize them if you get the chance. They make exploration and material farming much easier, which, in turn, will make your journey across Feudal Japan even better.
