Need to know how to get out of a well in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? The Breath of the Wild sequel introduces players to not only sky islands but even hard-to-spot underground well areas. Typically, Link can discover anything from materials and food, to even valuable chests when inside a well. But, the biggest challenge when well-diving is solving how to leave them. Although there are no secret back exits, players are able to head back to the mainlands of Hyrule with one simple trick. Here’s how you can get out of a well in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

You will encounter dozens of wells while exploring every region of Hyrule, but there are just two ways to get out of a well in Tears of the Kingdom. Firstly, players should be on the lookout for a ladder that is lying near the well entrance. If there is one, it is as simple as holding down the left bumper and using the Ultrahand power on the ladder. You can then rotate the ladder to lean it against a wall and climb out to the ground floor. However, even if there is a ladder, Link can also leave underground well areas by activating the Ascend ability.

As shown below, Link is able to use Ascend to swim through the area’s rock ceiling and head back to the world map. You can solve which sections of the ceiling you can Ascend through simply by moving Link while the ability is active until a green light appears. After you have found a spot, Link will be able to get out of a well by pressing “A” to begin the swim up.

You shouldn’t worry if you accidentally Ascended out of a well, either. All well areas will still be accessible once you have left them. Although, any resources you’ve looted from the well will not appear again. Those who have now mastered how to get out of a well may also consider doing the Fell Into a Well side quest. It challenges players to rescue an innocent civilian in return for a grand prize of 50 Rupees.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now on Nintendo Switch.
