Rare Candy can give you a nice boost in Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet, not to mention being a time-saver, so you really should know how to get them. It not only makes your Pokemon a little stronger, you save yourself a bunch that would’ve be spent grinding. Because the item is so useful, itโ€™s not surprising that theyโ€™re pretty hard to come by. Luckily, there are several ways to get Rare Candy in Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet.

In Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet, when your Pokemon eat a piece of Rare Candy, they gain a single level. It can be used at any levelโ€”under level 100, of course. See why theyโ€™re so useful and, well, rare?

Rare Candy doesnโ€™t grant any specified amount. The item works by granting as much experience as the chosen Pokemon needs to reach the next level. That means the best time to use Rare Candy is any time after the first 50 levels or so, when grinding experience takes longer.

If you have one, select it in your bag in the ‘Other Items’ tab, then pick a Pokemon to give it to. Keep in mind that the game will not ask you to confirm a second time. Make sure you know you want to give it to first!

You probably already know how to get Rare Candy the old fashioned way: finding it all over the Paldea Region. There are over 70 Rare Candies found on the ground, which is kind of gross, but if you want ones without dirt, try these sources:

  • Participate in Tera Raid Battles: Specifically 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids. Youโ€™ll often get Rare Candy as a reward. Itโ€™s a much more deterministic way of getting them without hoping youโ€™ll stumble across one.
  • Use a Pokemon with the Pickup Ability: Pokemon who have the Pickup ability will sometimes pick up items, and thereโ€™s a chance itโ€™ll be Rare Candy. You just have to have them in your party. Meowth has Pickup and theyโ€™re found really early on.
  • Run through the Academy Ace Tournament: Rare Candy is one of the items you can get as a reward after youโ€™ve completed the Academy Ace Tournament. As many as ten! Youโ€™ll have to beat the game and gym leaders first.

Remember that it’s not always easy to find Rare Candies in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, so getting them may take time and effort. I recommend running through Tera Raids and Academy Ace Tournaments, back to back. You’ll grind great experience and topple some big Pokemon.
