Until January 16, 2023, Trainers can participate in the live Twinkling Fantasy Event in Pokémon GO, during which they might have a chance to encounter the Shiny variant of one of the cutest Pokémon — Jigglypuff. This Fairy- and Normal-type Balloon Pokémon has been around since Generation I. Like Pikachu and Eevee, Jigglypuff has retained its unique identity as one of the most recognizable pocket monsters out of the hundreds of entries within the complete Pokédex. The pink and round Balloon Pokémon’s large beautiful eyes, cat-like ears, and curly head crest combine into a notable creature that very few can forget.
Catching Shiny Jigglypuff in Pokémon GO
While Shiny Jigglypuff has always been available for Trainers to find in Pokémon GO, the ongoing Twinkling Fantasy Event offers a higher encounter rate for the Balloon Pokémon, resulting in a better chance for Trainers to get the Shiny variation. Accordingly, there are three primary methods through which players might meet Shiny Jigglypuff.

The first and most straightforward method of encountering Shiny Jigglypuff in Pokémon GO is via Wild Encounters. Whenever Jigglypuff appears near Trainers in the AR realm, they should not hesitate to tap their screen to trigger the catch sequence. Once the Wild Encounter instance has begun, players can then see if the Jigglypuff in question is Shiny, as the alternate appearance is not visible from the overhead map view. For those unaware, the main difference between Jigglypuff and Shiny Jigglypuff is its eyes, as the Shiny version possesses green eyes instead blue.
According to sources at Prima Games, another way that Trainers might encounter and catch Shiny Jigglypuff in Pokémon GO is by experiencing a “Photobomb Event” similar to Smeargle’s. Whenever players take an in-game snapshot, there is a slight chance for Jigglypuff to photobomb the shot. This event can only happen twice a day, so players might need to grind several snapshots if they want to trigger the occurrence with a Shiny Jigglypuff. Finally, the third primary way players might find Jigglypuff’s Shiny variation is by defeating one in a One-Star Raid. Similar to Wild Encounters, it is not possible to see if Jigglypuff until Trainers have entered the catch screen. Since Raiding requires player movement and Raid Passes, Methods 1 and 2 mentioned above might be better for searching for Shiny Jigglypuff in Pokémon GO.
