The First Descendant is no doubt a pretty game, but immediately, you will notice that there’s something wrong– your character looks like everyone else. A few hours into the game, you begin to realize that you’re just a clone. Your existential dread then sets in at the thought that you might not be so special after all. Not to worry, I’m going to teach you how to look different by customizing your character and how to get skins in The First Descendant.
Note: You Can’t Customize/Paint Default Skins
That’s right. If you don’t have custom skins or other paid cosmetics, you don’t get to paint or customize your Descendant. Your Descendant will remain as is until you purchase a skin from the in-game shop.
With that out of the way, here’s how you can get skins in The First Descendant.
- Open the Inventory.
- Select Customize in the upper tabs.
- From here, you can choose to purchase skins for your Descendant, weapons, UI, etc.
- Choose Descendant Skins for now.
- Choose which part you want to purchase a skin for (some of these parts are bundled together).
- Once you have chosen your skin, you can then pick the paint or color in the right column.
- Likewise, you also need to purchase Paint colors if you don’t have them.
Don’t worry though as Paint colors are reusable and remain unlocked for all characters. Thankfully, you can check out which of the colors are worth it for you. Paint is also one of the cheaper cosmetics in the in-game shop.
Skins and other big and conspicuous cosmetics, however, can be expensive and can range from $5 to $20 USD each. This brings us to another part of the discussion.
How to Get FREE Skins in The First Descendant
So, about free stuff. You don’t get many options here. However, there are free skins. You can check them under the Battle Pass tab after opening the Inventory again. In the bottom right corner of the Battle Pass page, there’s also a hidden button that will show you more free weapon skins, free Descendant skins for the starting characters, helmets, and hair if you reach Level 50 in the Battle Pass.
Some of the weapon skins and accessories are part of the free Battle Pass reward track. The weapon skins themselves are quite detailed and look great. If you want some of the prettier skins, however, you will need to upgrade your Battle Pass to Premium. This Premium Battle Pass upgrade runs for around $10 USD or 500 Caliber (Premium Currency).
Apart from that, you can also finish the main quest to get rewarded with Paint colors, accessories, and other small cosmetics. Descendant Skins and the vast majority of cosmetics, however, will cost you a pretty penny.
