Command blocks are some of the more useful creator tools in Minecraft. They allow you to execute different commands using the power of Redstone. If you’re playing the Java or Bedrock version of the game, you can also get and use command blocks. Let’s dive into how to get and use a command block in Minecraft.
How To Get a Command Block in Minecraft
Firstly, you need to ensure that you have the Activate Cheats toggle turned on in the version of Minecraft you’re using. By default, this will also turn the Command Blocks Enabled toggle on. After that, follow these instructions to get the three different command blocks in Minecraft:
- In the chat, type in /give @s command_block to get the orange regular command block.
- Type in /give @s repeating_command_block to get the purple repeating command block.
- Type in /give @s chain_command_block to get the green chain command block.
How To Use a Command Block
To use command blocks, you need to understand the inside of the block. Although you can create each block individually, you can also change the type of block by going inside and clicking through them. Follow these instructions to use the command blocks:
- Change the block to the one you want.
- Depending on what you’re doing, select either the Conditional or Unconditional option.
- Depending on what you’re doing, select either the Needs Redstone or Always Active option.
Conditional means that in order for the command block to work, the block before it needs to have successfully worked. Otherwise, the Unconditional option means that it will always work. As for the Needs Redstone or Always Active options, this is for whether or not you need Redstone for the block to work.
