Water will always be a vital resource in survival games. In 7 Days To Die, you can get water from a few places. Is it all healthy and safe? Of course not. We donโ€™t want dysentery on our list of post-apocalypse complications. All this means is you must make the water as safe as possible for consumption. Once you learn how to purify it, you can collect all the water you need to survive in 7 Days To Die.

[Updated July 31, 2024 – focused primarily on the different ways you can get and purify water]

You must manage your hydration in 7 Days To Die if you want to maintain the recovery rate for your health and stamina. To do this, youโ€™ll need a steady supply of water. During your travels, you should come across various means to get water such as:

  • Lakes and ponds
  • Toilets
  • Water Coolers
  • Coffee pots
  • Soda machines
  • Food piles (canned food)
  • Dew Collector

You can always drink directly from lakes and ponds. But this is standing water, and standing water is dangerous. Instead, youโ€™ll want to collect water from different sources in 7 Days To Die. This water is shown as โ€œMurky Waterโ€ in your inventory.

Search inside toilets, coffee pots, piles of food, water coolers, etc. These will register jars of Murky Water. If you require a quick boost in hydration, you can eat the canned food. The effect is minor, but it can help if youโ€™re in a pinch.

Crafting a Dew Collector

A Dew Collector is the perfect structure to collect consistent water in 7 Days To Die. Youโ€™ll unlock it at Level 2 Workstation, and you can craft it using the following recipe:

  • Scrap Polymers x100
  • Short Iron Pipe x4
  • Duct Tape x4

Of course, youโ€™ll need to set it up outside exposed to the sky. If you have shelter with easy roof access, you can always set it up there. It keeps you and it safe from potential zombie hordes.

When it’s crafted and set up, itโ€™ll steadily collect water until you get jars of Murky Water. Typically, youโ€™ll get about three jars every 24 hours. However, you can always update your Dew Collector in 7 Days To Die with tools to increase the collection and safety of the water:

  • Gatherer: Doubles the water collection rate
  • Tarp: Doubles the amount of water collected
  • Water Filter: Collects Water rather than Murky Water

The Water Filter is a must-have. By adding it, youโ€™ll never have to waste time scavenging for Murky Water. You can buy it from Traders, earn it as a reward for finishing a quest, or luck out and loot it from broken Dew Collectors.

Weโ€™ve mentioned how adding a Water Filter helps purify the water from Dew Collectors. But if you canโ€™t find that, you can clean all the Murky Water using two things: a Cooking Pot and a Campfire.

You can always loot a Cooking Pot by searching various homes and kitchens. If you keep striking out, then consider buying it from a Trader if you have the funds. Youโ€™re unable to craft a Cooking Pot until you have a Forge with the Advanced Engineering perks. Until that happens, youโ€™ll have to settle with buying it or finding it.

With a Cooking Pot in your inventory, you can set up a Campfire using x5 Small Stones. As long as you collect enough Murky Water, you can boil numerous clean Water jars in 7 Days To Die. It takes little time, and it saves you from the unpleasant sensation of dysentery.
