This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Even though Core Keeper is in early access, it already has a large amount of content. It applies to activities, locations, enemies, and, of course, items. Whether it’s accessories or crafting materials, you will find quite a lot of them. But Core Keeper does not always tell you how to get and use some items, such as Crystal Skull Shards. They are very rare but have a key role in farming the Skull accessory set. Therefore, you will need to find as many of them as possible.

While sorting your items in chests in Core Keeper, you may discover mysterious Crystal Skull Shards. These Shards are needed to summon Malugaz the Corrupted, one of the few bosses that does not spawn during world generation. But before you go to the boss, you need to collect as many of these items as possible.

So, to get Crystal Skull Shards in Core Keeper, you just need to hunt mobs in Forgotten Ruins:

  • Caveling
  • Caving Shaman
  • Caving Brute

Players have to focus on the first two, as they are much easier to defeat than Caveling Brute. And since the chance of dropping Crystal Skull Shards is approximately 7%, you will have to hunt mobs for quite a long time. You can also try to defeat NPCs such as Fishing Merchant, Cloaked Merchant, Brave Merchant, or Bearded Merchant. However, we do not recommend that you do this, since they all have a lot of health and are much more useful to you alive.

Once you have collected 10 Crystal Skull Shards in the Core Keeper, you will be able to use them. To do this, move them to the hotbar slot and then use them. In exchange for the Shards, you will receive a Skull of the Corrupted Shaman.

As we said earlier, Shards will help you summon Malugaz the Corrupted. And now that you’ve got the Skull of the Corrupted Shaman, you can get it. Just look for a cave in Forgotten Ruins with a skull slab on the floor. After this, place the Skull of the Corrupted Shaman on the slab and get ready to fight a very strong boss.

That’s all you need to know about how to get and use Crystal Skull Shards in Core Keeper. You will need these items to farm accessories and resources from the Malugaz boss, so exploring Forgotten Ruins, does not leave any enemy alive.
