What came first: the sustainable ecosystem or the egg? Turns out it’s the egg, at least in The Planet Crafter. Of course, the world is pretty barren before you get started, so you don’t have a school of friendly fishies to sustain you like you would in Subnautica. Still, with hard work and calculated egg crafting you can transform the planet into something greener, bluer, and more welcoming. Fish Eggs play a surprisingly integral role in biomass creation and the terraforming process, making them an essential end-game resource. Here’s how to get and use Fish Eggs in The Planet Crafter.

Growing trees with the DNA Manipulator is only one way to create a thriving ecosystem. By depositing Fish Eggs in either an Aquarium or Fish Farm you can increase the planet’s overall Animal Biomass. This provides a significant bump to your Terraformation Index score, putting you one step closer to transforming the world altogether. Since progressing the Index is also how you unlock new blueprints, you can draw a surprisingly straight line from Fish Eggs to new technology. Nothing fishy about that.

To get Fish Eggs in The Planet Crafter, you can either collect or craft them. Crafting them is more sustainable and therefore preferable. You’re trying to revitalize a whole planet, after all. Why make things harder on yourself? To craft Fish Eggs you need two pieces of equipment: an Incubator and a Water Life Collector. Here’s what you need to craft them:

EquipmentRequired ResourcesFunction
IncubatorTree bark x1
Fertilizer T2 x1
Super Alloy x1
Oxygen Capsule x1
Acts as a Fish Egg crafting station
Water Life CollectorBioplastic Nugget x2
Super Alloy x1
Silk x3
Collects Phytoplankton type A, B, or C (and sometimes even Fish Eggs!)

Fish Eggs and the Terraformation Index

Position the Water Life Collector on water to begin the collection process. Next, combine one Phytoplankton type (A, B, or C), a Mutagen (T2 or T3), and a T1 Fertilizer in the Incubator to create Fish Eggs. After collecting enough Fish Eggs, place them in an Aquarium T1, Aquarium T2, or Fish Farm to increase the planet’s Animal Biomass. Doing so will in turn increase the planet’s Terraformation Index. You’re now just a few (dozen) steps away from having a terrestrial paradise to call your own.

The Planet Crafter is available on PC.
