Although securing a source of heat is a must, especially when you are responsible for transforming a whole planet’s ecosystem, you will only be able to assemble a heater in The Planet Crafter after securing Iridium, which can be a pretty elusive find for those who just landed and is considered one of the most useful resources when in the mid-game. To help you find the material as quickly as possible, here’s how to get it and the best location to farm Iridium in The Planet Crafter.
- Table of Contents:
Where To Find Iridium in The Planet Crafter
You can find large amounts of Iridium by heading to the Iridium Mine, which is also the best location to farm the material in The Planet Crafter —especially if you use an Ore Extractor. The resource can also be found in spades on The Meteor Crater. It is also possible to find it as a chance drop when exploring ship and settlement wrecks and by examining the remains of Iridium asteroids.
After getting Iridium, you will be able to use the material when crafting either items or structures by simply having it in your inventory.
The Planet Crafter Iridium Mine Location
Easily identifiable by its six sandfalls, I was able to reach the Iridium Mine in The Planet Crafter by heading right from the Standard Landing Spot (under the coordinates 599:1:633) until I crossed the rock formation highlighted in the image below. After crossing it, you will be able to spot the mine at a distance, so just continue onward to reach it.
For those looking for something more specific, the mine is located under the coordinates 970:25:799. Once in the area, I recommend that you quickly build a regular Living Compartment and a Craft Station close by so that you can restore your oxygen and store your supplies.
What Can You Make With Iridium?
Apart from the first two versions of the Heater, you can also use raw Iridium to make Iridium Rods, Explosive Powder, and Pulsar Quartzes in The Planet Crafter. To craft the rods, you will need to make use of an Advanced Craft Station, while crafting the other items will demand the use of a Biolab. You can check out the recipes for all of the items, as well as how to unlock them below:
Item | Recipe | How to Unlock |
---|---|---|
Heater T1 | 1x Iridium 1x Iron 1x Silicon | Unlocked after equipping the Microchip – Construction. |
Heater T2 | 2x Iridium 1x Silicon 1x Titanium 1x Iron 1x Aluminium | Unlocked when your Oxygen level reaches 1.85 ppt. |
Iridium Rod | 9x Iridium Rod (Must have unlocked the Advanced Craft Station). | Default schematic for the Advanced Craft Station. |
Explosive Powder | 2x Sulfur 1x Iridium | Default schematic for the Biolab. |
Pulsar Quartz | 1x Zeolite 1x Osmium 1x Uranium 1x Iridium 1x Methane cartridge | Unlocked when your Terraformation Index value reaches 175.000 GTi. |
While the rods can then be used to craft the T3 to T5 versions of the Heater, the Pulsar Quartz can be used to make Fusion Energy Cells. Lastly, the Explosive Powder is a key ingredient in making the Agility Boots T3, the Jetpack T3, and the Drone T2. You will also need it to make the T4 and T5 Heaters.
