An apple a day keeps the bandits away.

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Most city-builder players are used to having over 20 facilities all over the map. However, Manor Lords makes the production of certain items easier by including extensions to burgages, such as the Orchard. If you’re afraid of not providing enough food for your villagers during some of the year’s toughest months, having a field full of apples close to home can make a big difference. Yet, you have to remember unlocking this extension will take a while and a bit of elbow grease.

How To Unlock and Build Orchards in Manor Lords

Before you try to get an Orchard in Manor Lords, you need to reach the Small Village status, which you can achieve by building five burgages. You can rush this to get your first development point, which you’ll use to unlock Orchandry. Once you have it, proceed as such:

  1. Select your settlement’s name at the top of your screen to open the development tree.
  2. At the top middle section, select the Orchandry upgrade to unlock apple orchards.
  3. Head to any of your burgages and click on the cogwheel to select an upgrade for this building.
  4. Since you should only have the Orchard upgrade available, pick that and wait for your serfs to build it.

As the tooltip says, having an Orchard in Manor Lords is great for months such as September when certain crops and resources don’t provide a lot for your settlements. Trees take a long time to grow, so that’s the downside. However, once your Orchard is up and running, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything.

I recommend unlocking this upgrade with your first point, as it’ll allow you to start planning for the coming months. Assuming you started in Spring, you should have enough room to place a few Orchards while gathering other types of supplies around your settlement. If you’d rather wait to unlock this upgrade, you can pick any other from the development tree that you feel might suit your village better.
