You’ve probably taken a quick peek at some of the early The First Descendant tier lists and witnessed one constant character at or near the top: Valby. This hydro maiden has some of the most well-rounded stats for a Descendant and you can take her just about anywhere thanks to her excellent single-target and area damage. Getting her, however, is not going to be simple, especially if you want to get Valby for free. But down below, I’ll detail how, in the quickest way possible.

Requirements Before You Get Valby (for Free) in The First Descendant
If you’ve obtained Bunny already and have been introduced to Anais, then you’re likely aware that certain areas for farming Descendant crafting materials are gate-kept by the main quest. That means you can’t just farm ahead for Valby’s materials before or right after you’ve obtained Bunny.
This is what you need to unlock before you can get Valby manually in The First Descendant:
- Have at least one maxed-out Descendant and weapon, complete with Modules
- Unlock the Sterile Land region (main quest)
- Unlock the Vespers region (main quest)
- Unlock the Echo Swamp region (main quest)
- Reach Normal Void Intercept Battle: Stunning Beauty (Lvl. 22)
- Reach Normal Void Intercept Battle: Executioner (Lvl. 34)
- Reach Normal Void Intercept Battle: Devourer (Lvl. 54)
That’s all the areas and bosses you need to have access to if you want a smoother way to farm Valby. All in all, you can expect to get Valby in 10-12 hours of playing time on average from the start of the game if you’ve made her your goal.

You can obtain this one in the Sterile Land (Normal) – Void Fusion Reactor in the Sterile Land Rockfall Zone. There’s a low chance for this so don’t feel bad if you don’t get it the first time.
