Like the fearsome Deathclaws of Fallout, Terromorphs in Starfield can be a formidable opponent if encountered on your adventure. You are required to face off against one of these beasts during the Vanguard Quest, “Grunt Work.” However, it is also possible to find one of these terrifying creatures out in the wild. For instance, we had our first encounter with an Alpha Terromorph near a cave on Kreet, the moon Vasco directs you to during “One Small Step.” This unsightly insectoid alien can pack a punch, but we managed to kill this Terromorph in Starfield.

How To Beat Starfield Terromorphs

Like in any Bethesda RPG, combat in Starfield isn’t exactly the most complex or elaborate feature the game has to offer. Of course, there’s a variety of builds to pursue at your discretion. Still, generally speaking, fighting involves chugging down consumables while firing at or bashing an enemy. Likewise, taking down a Terromorph or Alpha Terromorph in Starfield is somewhat similar to facing a Giant in Skyrim.

Kiting is your best friend, along with a Companion to tank the damage for you. As ridiculous as it might sound, we are running a “Space Monk” build by maxing Boxing as our primary skill. This is by far the least ideal way to fight a formidable foe like a Terromorph. Nevertheless, we were able to stay alive by having Vasco tank aggro while we bashed the bug from behind.

That said, our Companion eventually did go down temporarily due to the sheer DPS the Terromorph is capable of. This is where having plenty of heals is essential. Whether you are using ranged or especially melee weaponry, a sufficient number of Med Packs is what will either spell victory or death against an Alpha Terromorph in Starfield. We should also mention that most of the Terromorph’s attacks are very close-range strikes. However, it is capable of jumping and lunging at its prey, so don’t get too comfortable shooting at it from a distance while stationary.

Due to the combat being engaging yet quite simplistic, there isn’t much to say on strategies to beat a Starfield Terromorph other than the following:

  • Have plenty of Med Packs in your inventory before engaging the monster.
  • Utilize your Companion as a damage sponge so you can safely whittle away the Terromorph’s HP.
  • If the beast targets you, constantly sidestep, as most of its attacks are frontal and short-ranged.
