Less than a week is left before the official release of Starfield. But some players can already join early access and start their adventures in space. In the best traditions of the studio, you can create a unique character and go to search various worlds in the universe. But even though you find yourself in the distant future, the eternal problem of locked doors will still prevent you from getting valuable loot. Therefore, you need to learn how to open locks as quickly as possible. So, read on to find out how to lockpick doors easily in Starfield.

Starfield continues the tradition of previous developer titles. And this applies to many aspects of the game, including locks. During your adventure, you will be able to find many doors and chests locked with special locks. To open them, you need to play a mini-game. Luckily, it’s pretty easy, at least at first.

So, to lockpick a door or a chest in Starfield, you need to use a digital lockpick, or as it is more commonly called, a Digipick. The mini-game consists of several rings with missing segments. To “open” one ring, you must select one of the keys on the right. The keys have several blocks placed in a circle at different distances. The correct key has the blocks in the same positions as the missing segments in the lock ring.

After selecting the key, you can rotate it 360 degrees to fit it correctly. If you do everything right, the first ring will disappear, and you will have to do the same with the next one. When all the rings are “open” you will pick the lock and get a Digipick as an additional reward.

However, if you can’t lockpick a door or chest in Starfield or you leave it, you won’t get an extra Digipick. It is also worth noting that the mini-game is generated randomly every time you interact with the lock. Therefore, one lock can’t have the same mini-game.

Starfield Lockpicking Tips & Tricks

  • When you Lockpick something in Starfield, time in the world stops. Therefore, you can slowly think about which keys you should pick up first.
  • Level up Security skill to be able to pick higher-level locks like Expert or Master. Also, with each rank of the Security skill, you will receive auto-attempts, which can automatically match the key to one ring.
  • Reach Rank 4 Security skill to use one extra Digipick and remove the wrong key during the mini-game.

That’s all you need to know about how to lockpick doors and chests easily in Starfield. The lockpicking mechanics are very interesting and can sometimes be a little tricky. So follow our tips to lockpick every lock on your way. In the meantime, take a look at our guide on how to Swim.
