Fighting fairytale monsters and other, even more despicable foes gets expensive. Even if you’re hellspawn with a stone hand, bludgeoning the bad guys into submission isn’t always enough. Though your allies at the Butterfly House provide you with charms, weapons, and even upgrades to your fighting style, they demand a special resource. If you want to buy something in the middle of Wyrd, meanwhile, there’s no substitute for cold hard cash. Or at least cold hard coins. If you have your eye on a particular upgrade you can’t quite afford, a few money-making techniques can help you fill your pockets in this comic-inspired roguelike. Here’s how to make money fast in Hellboy Web of Wyrd.
Slay for Pay
As you explore Wyrd you’ll encounter pedestals containing upgrades you can buy. At a cost of 300 Coins, these upgrades are expensive, but they can mean the difference between having enough health to survive a boss and dying at the end of a level. The easiest and most common way to make money is by killing enemies, just like in other games. Even the smallest mobs drop coins when you kill them. The faster and more efficiently you fight, the more money you’ll make. Unfortunately, small mobs only drop small amounts of money.
Big Bads in Web of Wyrd drop more coins than smaller minions, but they also take far more time to kill, so farming them isn’t very efficient in you’re trying to make money fast. You need to clear most rooms eventually anyway in order to progress, so you’ll end up in plenty of Big Bad fights whether you want to or not. After killing the various mobs on each level you’ll have built up a decent collection of coins, but it probably isn’t enough to buy the upgrades you want. For that, you’ll need to pursue other means.
Break Coin Containers
Wyrd is a weird place for Hellboy, and you’ll see all kinds of unnatural sights during your time there. In addition to the various lore objects that you can find and bring back to the Butterfly House, you’ll also find coin-holding containers. They look like floating brains covered with arcane symbols. They’re not exactly easy to miss, but it’s still possible to overlook them in the heat of battle or while exploring. Make sure not to pass them up. Brains are worth considerably more than a roomful of enemies and are far faster to acquire.
While you explore the map on the lookout for brains, keep an eye out for the areas where you can actually buy items. Their doors are clearly marked, but it doesn’t take much to get turned around and forget where something is. That’s especially true when the level doubles back on itself. Areas in Web of Wyrd are procedurally generated. That makes them new each time, but it also makes building a clear mental map more difficult. After all, making money fast in Web of Wyrd doesn’t do you much good if you can’t actually spend your coins.
Take the Fortune Aura
As you explore, the Norn will provide you with Blessings, each of which grants a unique power. Some Blessings are better than others, and you get your pick. If you’re trying to make money fast, there’s no better Blessing in Web of Wyrd than Fortune Aura. This Blessing increases the amount of coins dropped by enemies. Farming enemies is normally a slow but reliable way to gain coins. This Blessing significantly improves the coin drop rate. Get your hands on this Blessing as early as you can. The more more enemies you can farm with it, the greater your rewards will be.
No money-making method will produce a fortune by itself in Web of Wyrd. It’s only by pursuing every method at once that you will be able to buy those valuable Blessings at a reasonable rate. Taking the Fortune Aura makes the rest of the level more challenging than it would otherwise be, however. Be aware that without the Health drops from Dividend Aura things could get challenging. Compensate for this with upgrades to Total Toughness to keep you safe on your money-making ventures. Having the best armor is always a good idea. That’s the cost of doing business if you want to make money fast in Hellboy Web of Wyrd.
Hellboy Web of Wyrd will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 24.
