In a game about economics and production, money in Anno 1800, as they say, makes the world go round. Without it, you won’t be able to fund your constructions, and expeditions, raise a navy, and improve your settlements. As a beginner, you probably don’t know the fastest way how to make money in Anno 1800. So allow us to help you turn your quick bucks into fat stacks (yo) in order to out-capitalize your enemies.

How to Make Money in Anno 1800 Through Trading

This is the quickest and most effortless way to make money in Anno 1800. Trading with the neutral AI, and even with opposing AI, can make your treasury overflow fast. However, you have to know which goods (raw or processed) to trade for with each AI faction since they all have different needs and wants.

There are two ways to trade goods in Anno 1800 before we get to the most profitable goods. That would be:

  • Passive trade – Simply marking goods or resources for sale in your Trading Post buildings. This means any faction can buy them from you and the method is easier, safer, and effortless though with worse returns than active trade routes.
  • Trade route – Building ships then automating cargo loading and travel to other factions’ Trading Posts to sell and offload goods. This option is better for selling to specific factions, though it is more dangerous due to pirates and hostile factions.

Which Goods to Trade?

Now that you know how to trade, we’ll get to the most profitable goods in Anno 1800. You’ll want to trade these items with certain NPCs since they will buy them at a higher markup.

That also means overproducing these goods for the sole purpose of selling the surplus. They have much higher selling prices compared to what you spend on producing them per ton.

  • Coal – Archibald Blake buys it for 32 (trade route).
  • Soap – Eli Bleakworth buys it for 384 (trade route).
  • Beer – Anne Harlow/Jean La Fortune buys it for 1040 (trade route), however, they’re pirates, so you might want to reconsider trading with her.
  • Weapons – Isabel Sarmento buys them for 912 (trade route).
  • Fur Coats – Madame Kahina buys them for 992 (trade route).
  • Cigars – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 864.
  • Champagne – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 1850.
  • Light Bulbs – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 4420.
  • Glasses – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 4450.
  • Penny Farthings – Emperor Ketema buys them for 2793 (trade route).
  • Gold – Old Nate buys them for 4432 (trade route).
  • Steam Motors – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 7028.
  • Jewellery – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 11346.
  • Advanced Weapons – Passive trade (at your Trading Post), all factions buy them for 24110.
  • Steam Carriages – Emperor Ketema buys them for 66601 (trade route).
  • Gramophones – Emperor Ketema buys them for 44009 (trade route). They’re easier to produce than Steam Carriages.

There you have it, simply sell your surpluses of the following items and you’ll be filthy rich in no time. That’s the best, fastest, and most effortless way to make money in Anno 1800. Once you have your trade routes and production chains going, it’s all clockwork from there on.
