Safes are among the many hidden things you might encounter in Dying Light: The Beast if you dare to explore the zombie-infested Castor Woods. However, opening them is a whole different ordeal, as some of these safes usually have their codes locked behind a puzzle, some unmarked side quests, and in some weird cases, even some mathematical operations. One of these Dying Light: The Beast safes is the one that is inside an apartment in Old Town, and it involves a fight between neighbors and a strange devotion to a dog.

Old Town Apartment Safe Solution

Since there isn’t an actual name tied to any of the safes in Dying Light: The Beast, we decided to call it the apartment safe in Old Town, so we’re going with that.

Anyway, the location of this safe can be seen in the above image. As a reference, it is near the Town Hall and between the two restaurant icons. You’ll also find the safe more easily if you use your Survivor’s Instinct, which will quickly show the Investigation icons.

Upon entering the apartment, you will find a note from one neighbor complaining about another, specifically mentioning the noise of their dog. However, the important thing to remember from this note is that the noisy neighbor commissioned a portrait of her dog.

Then, if you head to that neighbor’s apartment, you will find the safe and a note talking about the dog.

The important line is the one at the end that reads, “Knowing how much treasure you’re hiding.” That is the only clue you need to figure out what the safe’s code is.

If you head to the kitchen area, you’ll see a portrait of a dog. Hit it with any weapon, and once it falls, it will reveal the number 141120, which is the safe’s code.

Go to the safe and input the code, 14, 11, 20, to open it and claim the Rogue Leather Mask, which is perfect for stealth-oriented builds, and some valuables.

It might not be the most rewarding safe in Castor Woods, but the puzzle behind it is definetely fun, and it adds yet another superb piece of environmental storytelling that Techland always manages to execute flawlessly.
