Path of Exile 2 is nigh upon us, but you might want to curb that excitement a bit because it’s not exactly as accessible as you might’ve previously thought. While the Path of Exile franchise’s main appeal was its free price tag, Path of Exile 2 Early Access is not free (unlike its 1.0 version or full release). Here’s what you need to know and do before you can play Path of Exile 2 Early Access on December 6, 2024.
Cost of Entry for Path of Exile 2 Early Access
At the minimum, you can expect Path of Exile 2 Early Access to cost $29.99, more or less depending on your region. This USD 30-ish price is for the most basic Supporter Pack, which you need to purchase to gain entry to Path of Exile 2 Early Access.
For the record, here’s what the Path of Exile 2 Supporter Packs grant you, apart from getting to play Early Access.

“Points” refer to MTX currency which you can use to purchase more in-game cosmetics. These affect gameplay stats or balance in any way, though some of them might offer convenience such as additional stash tabs like in the original Path of Exile.
Now, you might be wondering whether it’s worth it to play Early Access or not since Path of Exile 2‘s 1.0 release will be free-to-play. Some of you might want to save $30 and just wait. The answer to that will depend on how eager you are to play Path of Exile 2.
According to Grinding Gear Games, the devs behind Path of Exile 2, you can expect Early Access to last six months at the minimum. After that, the free 1.0 version will be available. Of course, there’s always the chance that it might take longer, so getting to play six months or more months earlier could be valuable to you.
You Can Technically Play Path of Exile 2 Early Access for Free
The only other way to play Path of Exile 2 early access for free is if you’ve already spent a minimum of $480 (USD) on the original Path of Exile. This can be individual MTX purchases or Supporter Packs for the original game. Free MTX values and pre-discount prices do not count.
Also, if you purchased the highest tier of a Path of Exile Supporter Pack in the past, you can also get access to Path of Exile 2.
If you have, then you will have received an email from Grinding Gear Games about the free access to Path of Exile 2 Early Access. So if you’re really close to that number of expenditures in the original Path of Exile (less than $30 short of $480), you might want to spend a bit more to play Path of Exile 2 Early Access.
Don’t worry as the MTX and cosmetics in the original Path of Exile will carry over to Path of Exile 2 Early Access and the full release.
