There’s nothing worse than losing all your Pikmin while exploring, but thankfully Pikmin 4 has the answer for this: rewind time. Pikmin 4 is back, bigger than ever, and with brand-new unique features, such as the ability to time travel. However, this ability comes with its consequences and limitations. Today, we will discuss this feature and how to use it properly. Do not mourn your lost Pikmin just yet. Here is how to rewind time in Pikmin 4.

To rewind time in Pikmin 4, all you have to do is click the “-” button in your controller to access the Options menu. You will see the “Rewind Time” option there. Once you click it, you can rewind time to the last auto-save, a few minutes in the past, or even to the beginning of the day. That last option applies if you are currently on the surface. If you are in a cave, you can rewind time to the beginning of the level.

To balance things out, there are some limits to this mechanic. While there are no limits to the number of times you can go back in time, you can’t travel between areas. As said before, using the option in a cave will only rewind time up to the beginning of the level. If you decide to leave the cave, your Rewind Time will only work up to the point where you exited the cave. Moreover, using Rewind Time will make you lose your progress and any treasure you may have come upon. Finally, you cannot use Rewind Time at the Rescue Command Post.

With that being said, be extra careful whenever you use Rewind Time in Pikmin 4. If you lose all of your Pikmin in a sudden encounter, Rewind Time could be really useful. However, if you do this recklessly, you could potentially be looking to do some major re-exploration. You will also lose all your treasures until you find them again. This could translate to more time spent exploring the same areas all over again than just continuing without rewinding time.

Be sure to rewind time wisely in Pikmin 4. After all, a couple of wrong turns or dead Pikmin can be recovered, but a whole day of treasure hunting lost due to some time travel would be a real headache.

Pikmin 4 is available now on Nintendo Switch.
