Taming an Argentavis is an important part of any Ark Survival Evolved adventure. This bird of prey is an amazing creature for flying long distances, thanks to its exceptional stamina. Also, the Argentavis’s saddle doubles as a portable smithy. While this doesn’t seem like a big deal, having an Argentavis is quite the game changer. You never know when you’ll need to take a trip across the map or fix a crossbow or piece of armor on the go! It’s always best to be prepared with an Argentavis. Keep reading to learn more about how to tame an Argentavis in Ark Survival Evolved.

Where To Find an Argentavis

To locate an Argentavis, you’ll need to explore the areas farther north in the snowy biomes or even in the Redwoods. With that in mind, you should avoid trying to tame an Argentavis until you can face off against a Rex and still walk away with all your limbs intact. We advise waiting until you are at least level 70 or higher and have access to Flak Armor and a crossbow or longneck rifle.

How To Tame an Argentavis

Now, it’s time to get down to the act of taming the Argentavis, or Argie, in Ark Survival Evolved. The best way we’ve discovered is with some tranq darts and a longneck rifle. Be sure you have a few Dinosaur Gateways and Dinosaur Doors in tow when you head out to find one.

Once you’re in an area with an Argentavis, set up your Dinosaur Gateways in the following position:

  1. Place down the structures in a row. They should stand parallel to each other so that you can create a makeshift tunnel with them.
  2. There should be one Dinosaur Gateway with a door, then three to four of them directly behind it, and a final gateway with another door.
  3. Once your gateways are in place, shut the door on one end and leave the other open.

Head out and aggro an Argentavis to lure it back into your trap. Once the bird is in place, shut the door on the opposite end and shoot through the gaps in the Dinosaur Gateways to knock the high-level Argentavis out with tranquilizer darts. After the Argentavis is unconscious, feed it the food of your choosing and wait for it to wake up.
