While I don’t mind experiencing the decades-old sagas of Dragon Ball over and over, I’m glad Dragon Ball: Sparking ZERO included the fabled Sparking episodes. For the unaware, if you meet certain conditions during a fight, there’s a chance you’ll unlock an alternate fight that might lead to a completely different timeline. While some scenarios are short, others combine more than one saga into full-blown spectacles. Since there are many of them, we’ve compiled a list of requirements to unlock every Sparking episode in the game.
Unlocking Sparking Episodes
Before we go into the list, there are a few tips to know which stages lead to a Sparking episode in Dragon Ball: Sparking ZERO. Initially, you won’t know if one battle can lead to an alternate route. You’ll only know this after you finish a stage or chapter and return to the Story Map. As you can see above, the Frieza Returns scenario has a green icon indicating there is a Sparking episode or at least an alternate route. To unlock the alternate route, you have to do the fight again, but this time, you can pause the game and select “Battle Details” to see the unlock conditions.
For instance, in the above example, the normal route requires you to fight Frieza for a set amount of time. However, the alternate route unlocks when you defeat Frieza, which doesn’t happen in the source material. Lastly, it’s important to note that Sparking episodes are usually longer routes with completely different endings and new cutscenes, which are the ones we’ll focus on below.
All Sparking Episodes and Alternate Routes
Sparking Episode | Unlock Conditions |
---|---|
Pushing the Limit (Goku) | Decide to work with Piccolo before Raditz’s fight and defeat Raditz as fast as possible. This can be done easily by reaching Sparking mode and spamming rush attacks. |
Side by Side (Goku) | Choose to go alone to fight Raditz and defeat Raditz quickly. Use the above strategy. |
The Changing Future (Goku) | Decide to help Piccolo during the Cell arc. |
Parental Bond (Vegeta) | Defeat Andriod 18 during the Wind-up Doll mission. The same strategy applies: spam rush attacks in Sparking mode. |
Number One Spot (Vegeta) | Choose to “Shake Off” Babidi during the “Vegeta’s Wicked Heart” mission. |
The Strongest Warrior (Gohan) | During the Resurrection of F saga, defeat Frieza’s soldier and Frieza as fast as possible. |
A Mentor’s Guidance (Piccolo) | First, defeat Frieza during the Namek saga. Continue with the story as usual and then help Goku fight Andriod 19 in the Android saga. |
Shining Hope (Trunks) | Defeat Zamasu as fast as possible during the “Twisted World” mission. |
Inherited Pride (Trunks) | Choose to stay in the present during “Trunk’s Choice” and defeat all three opponents in the next mission. |
Embarking Toward Tomorrow (Trunks) | During the “Father or Teamwork?” quest, pick Gohan instead of Vegeta. |
Frieza Force Joins the Fray (Frieza) | Defeat Goku and Vegeta as fast as possible during the “Frieza Revived” mission. |
Proof of Justice (Goku Black) | Defeat Goku and Vegeta during “Act Three Begins.” You have to do this quickly. |
True Strength (Jiren) | During the “Saiyan Rampage” quest, choose to wait and see. |
Surprisingly, all Sparking episodes in Dragon Ball: Sparking ZERO are extremely fun and quite shocking. I won’t spoil anything here, but most of them change the timeline we know considerably. In certain cases, our heroes don’t even leave Earth as intended, which is quite shocking. So, now that you have the clues on how to get everything, pick your favorite fighter and start unlocking those alternate routes.
