Want to know how to unlock and use the Black Forge in Valheim? Collecting various materials and crafting new items is an integral part of the gameplay in Valheim. Because getting into each new biome, your old weapons and armor are no longer so good, and you must craft something new. Among other things, once you’re in the Mistlands biome, you’ll feel like creating something more suitable for those lands for now, and for that, you’ll need a Black Forge. To unlock and use the Black Forge in Valheim, you will need to gather some materials from this area and fulfill a couple of prerequisites, and we will help you with this.

As we said earlier, to unlock Black Forge in Valheim, you must visit the Mistlands biome and collect Black Forge crafting materials. It’s important to note that you get the Black Forge recipe by collecting at least one of each material, but you’ll need a bit more to craft:

  • Black Marble x10. To collect some Black Marble, you must find and loot Petrified Bones. These bones are in various places in the Mistlands, so you only need to search a little.
  • Yggdrasil Wood x10. You can collect Yggdrasil Wood by chopping down the Yggdrasil sprouts throughout the Mistlands biome.
  • Black Core x5. Unlike previous materials, you will not be able to collect Black Core on the surface of the biome. To do this, you must go into the Mistlands dungeons, also known as Infested Caves. Check the chests and be careful not to miss a single core.

After collecting all the materials, you will automatically unlock the recipe and be able to create Black Forge. But before that, you have to fulfill one requirement. You can not build Black Forge in the middle of a forest or an open area, as you must cover at least 70% of the Black Forge. But for convenience, it’s better to place the Black Forge in a building or on the porch.

After completing all the requirements and collecting the materials, you only need to use the Hammer Tool on the Workbench to craft the Black Forge.

Black Forge Cooler Upgrade

Later, you can upgrade Black Forge with a few more simple materials. You need 5 Iron, 5 Copper, and 4 Black Marble. This improvement will not open a list of new crafts for you, but you can improve or repair existing weapons and armor tools created on a previous version of Black Forge. In addition, the upgrading cost is relatively low, so you won’t lose anything by upgrading Black Forge.
