If, for whatever reason, you feel that Mortal Shell 2 isn’t punishing enough, there is actually one way to make the game harder yet more rewarding. After finding one specific item, you can summon an NPC at the top of the Marrow Tower and ask him to bump the difficulty for you. Contrary to easy mode, there are no drawbacks to this, other than having the whole world in a more difficult state. So, if you want to see how to make the game more challenging, here we’ll tell you how to unlock Night Mode in Mortal Shell 2.

To unlock Night Mode, you’ll have to do just a bit of exploring after leaving Marrow Keep. You will have to go to the north beacon on the map, which is the only one you should have enabled after arriving at the hub. Teleport from there and walk toward the open area with the miniboss. After defeating the miniboss, interact with the structure in the middle, and you’ll obtain the Gloombound Flame. Here, you can continue exploring, but if you want to make Mortal Shell 2 more difficult with its Night Mode, then return to the Keep.

You will have to head to the top of the Keep and press the prompt to use the candle. After that, a new NPC will spawn, which will allow you to “Call forth the night.” In other words, it will unlock Night Mode.

Keep in mind that Night Mode can be toggled on and off at any time by speaking with the NPC. This means that if there’s a part that is too challenging for you, you can just turn it off and explore it freely and without feeling a lot of pressure.

What Does Night Mode Change?

Basically, Night Mode will give enemies a bigger HP pool, while also making them hit harder. So far, we haven’t seen different enemy patrols or numbers in dungeons. However, instead of just increasing their stats, you will also see some content being exclusive to Night Mode. For example, there is one first-person section that only triggers during Night Mode. Also, you don’t have to worry about missing some of this content. Whenever you encounter one, you’ll see a message nearby, meaning that you can return once you enable Night Mode and see what changes.

In any case, we recommend swapping between Standard and Night Mode, just for the new content. The truth is that some enemies are too annoying to defeat with so much health, and while the Gloom and Gold rewards are great, we don’t think it’s worth it.
