While most of the characters you’ll unlock for Mortal Shell 2 are, well, Shells, there is one exception, and that is Sester Genessa. We won’t spoil the reasons why she isn’t considered a Shell, but the important part is that she is playable and that she has some interesting gimmicks, such as summoning clones, getting a powerful “second life” effect of sorts, and being one of the best DPS characters in the game, with the option to taunt enemies away from her. If you want to add her to your collection, here’s how to unlock her.
Unlocking Sester Genessa in Mortal Shell 2
The first thing you will have to do is talk to Sester Genessa at Marrow Keep until she mentions a Censer, which is a “Prison.” This will not make sense at first, or at least not until you reach the game’s second area: Mammon.
Once in this new area, you have to head to the eastern side of the map and find the Abbey. If you’re having difficulty finding this place, just head east until you find the area with the red trees and follow the road until you locate a field with a bunch of Sester spirits. There, head to the wall and interact with the item, which, you guessed it, is the Censer.

Inside, you’ll have to fight Sester Secundus, which isn’t a particularly challenging fight. Parrying her attacks is quite easy, so focus on a defensive approach to this encounter. Once you beat her, she will drop the Sester’s Censer. With it in your inventory, return to Sester Genessa at Marrow Keep to unlock her.
Keep in mind that upgrading and using her works a bit differently. For the former, you have to talk to the new NPC that took Sester Genessa’s place to use Shell Points and see her Memories—nothing will happen if you go to the room where the NPC and other Shells are.
In terms of gameplay, Sester Genessa is quite useful, and quite possibly the best character in the game due to her clones. She can summon a couple of them, with the number depending on your passive upgrades. We recommend focusing on the first skill tree line, as it makes clones hit more times and even taunt enemies. However, you can also upgrade her “second life” skills, which let her summon even more clones after being defeated.
