The Umbrella is a rare item that you can find when playing Risk of Rain Returns. Unlike most of the other items and equipment in the game, the Umbrella isn’t something that you can unlock by default. You’ll need to work a little but if you want to get your hands on it. Fortunately, we did all the work for you and wrote out exactly who to unlock the Umbrella in Risk of Rain Returns as well as how it works.

You can find the Umbrella in Risk of Rain by completing the Meteor Showers Providence Trial. In the trial, you must utilize the Glowing Meteorite terminals to score at least 40 points. When you trigger the teleported, your score is doubled. In our experience, we used the Sniper Survivor and jumped around the enemies until we could open enough chests and get enough money to open other chests and get items. It’s pretty hard to master, but easy to do after dying thousands of times. When unlocked, you’ll start to find it during different runs of Risk of Rain Returns.

How Does The Umbrella Work?

The Umbrella itself and what it does is as follows:

NamePickup TextDescriptionCategoryUnlock
UmbrellaThey fear the rain.Rain begins for 15 seconds (increases per stack) upon activating the Teleporter. Rain stuns, damages, and weakens enemies. You are invincible while it is raining.?Complete the Providence Trieals title Meteor Showers.

This proved to be incredibly helpful while we were trying to obtain different Survivors or even when going through the very last moments of a stage and fighting bosses. Of course, it only has one use whenever you activate a Teleporter, though fifteen seconds is a lot of time considering it takes 90 seconds to open.

Since you’re invincible while the rain is going on, it’s a perfect time to use all of your other items to your advantage and take down enemies and bosses as fast as possible. Remember, the faster you complete a run, the easier it is since extended time increases the difficulty. There’s no Teleporter you can activate on the last level, so you try to be as prepared as possible before then.

Risk of Rain Returns is available for PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.
